Feb. 2026
I'll say yes because there is fun to be had in this game and it goes on sale for fairly cheap these days, but it 100% deserves it's mixed rating. The game has serious issue with it's design choices. I feel a lot of times they'll make a choice but then instantly negate it somehow. They removed the skill trees in favor of gear that gives you abilities, this is honestly pointless as once you get used to playing with the abilities a piece of gear gives you you're not going to alter it. There is a rank system and gun tiers but these also don't matter as headshots are almost always one hit kills. They added ammo types but this was stupid, poison and fire are always worthless because this game doesn't work with damage over time, and soft target rounds are also trash because flesh is weak to everything, so you'll just give every gun you have armor piercing rounds. This actually made the game a lot easier than past entries because armored enemies are not even remotely a threat. They added fishing but I didn't even try it because I didn't care, they kept hunting but it's also pointless now because instead of crafting inventory upgrades you just sell the skins for crafting items. They added camp upgrades but only half of them are worth anything. After you get a set of weapons and upgrade your camp all the loot in the game loses it's value. They brought back the instanced missions I liked from New Dawn, but then added a mechanic that you have to carry a container that's overheating back to the start, forcing you to constantly find water pools and faucets to cool it down, this just forces you to run into enemy heavy areas and prevents you from taking the stealth route which we didn't enjoy so we didn't even bother doing them all. The supremo feels like a bit like a looter shooter rip off. They give you a special ability but most of them aren't worth using. The basic missile barrage is okay, the fire one can be used to double jump and save yourself from fall damage, there's a special one that can be used with a single gun that lets you wall hack (we didn't bother getting this), but in the end I just used the healing pack. It lets you revive yourself when downed if it's charged and you can revive allies without an animation, the rest are a waste of space. As for story I'd say it's 75% trash. There are a few segments, the starting area, 3 areas with major arcs to them, and the end city. The only part I liked was the bit with the legends you need to recruit the major players from the previous revolution to help with the current one, but you also find a smaller group called La Moral that are younger kids also trying to fight the government. Getting them both on board, having a group of jaded but experienced fighters mixed with organized, fervent, but inexperienced fighters was an interesting dynamic. In addition it was the only part that remotely felt like the revolution was at all serious. Aside from that one piece the story is trash. Nobody else fights like anything is at stake. Dani is a resident of that country and yet has to have everything explained to them like they just arrived their yesterday. Nobody make intelligent choices, people keep secrets from each other or just flat out refuse to bring things up just so the plot can happen. Most of the side characters are also awful. The game forces you to do work for a person who seems to be doing some human trafficking, even though they don't help you after you finish. At one point you get the option to kill off a rich businessman that has been funding the regime that's killing people, but no matter what you do the story doesn't change in the slightest and acts like you're working with him. You have to help one of the side character smuggle the drug you're trying to stop to foreign countries, and there is zero effort in explaining how these action help in the end. Ubisoft also couldn't help themselves and put it multiple scenes where you get captured and somehow escape which just take me out of the game. Another thing I'd like to bring up, if anyone read this far, is the game sits in a weird spot with enemies. The camps all felt super empty, there were never any fights we felt like the enemy numbers were that high, but the game would constantly spawn more in so it felt simultaneously like the fight was going too long but also like there was never anyone there. Anyone who's played FC2 may remember the spawn issues, once you left a camp enemies would just instantly repopulate it, causing you to have to clear multiple times. In contrast the newer games have an issue that once you flipped the camps the map became so devoid of threats there was nothing left to do. This game has flippable camps but also several areas that can't be converted and are always hostile but it doesn't really succeed in finding a middle ground, you'll still find it easy to move unhindered, its just if you happen to be next to one of these uncappable areas you may have to deal with constant enemy spawn ins that feel very unrealistic.

Not as fun as Far Cry cult in the US woods game but still amazingly huge and lush.

It's a much better game than most people give it credit for. It has the usual arduous collectathons that Ubisoft is known for, but while I was playing, I found that the game was a million times more enjoyable when I started ignoring that part of it. This was the only thing I didn't like. The story is nothing to write home about, but Far Cry has never been about that. Far Cry has always been about cool villains and settings. I believe Far Cry 6 hit the mark in that regard. Anton Castillo is a super cool and badass villain, and all of the lesser villains are interesting as well. Bembe was a cool antihero that just kind of disappeared for no reason, though. I wonder what happened to him? The allies you get are more or less forgettable, except Clara and Juan; The supremo weapons are an interesting addition to the game but I didn't use them too much and the addition of fishing was also kind of needless, but none of that lowers my opinion of the game. Not the best game ever, but I think it's a real Far Cry experience and it's certainly worth playing.

Honestly, I just played Far Cry 6 to see Anton Castillo lose. That’s it. Totally worth it. Also, the graphics are really impressive.
