Far Cry New Dawn is easily the most different Far Cry game in the series, and that’s honestly why I loved it. The RPG-style systems, perks, tiers, and straight up superpowers completely shake up the usual formula, and the post apocalyptic Hope County is such a cool, colorful contrast to Far Cry 5’s tone. I genuinely enjoyed the new progression systems, the Expeditions, and pretty much all the weapons, from janky scrap guns to endgame monster builds, plus the characters (except the main villians) were memorable in the best Far Cry way. While the story definitely doesn’t hit as hard as some of the other modern Far Cry games, it’s a must play if you enjoyed 5 and wanted more from that world. I’d have 100% completed it too, but one co op achievement stands between me and perfection, proudly proving I have no friends, by choice, obviously! Edit* I found a friend to 100% it with!!!!!!
There are a myriad of issues and details that have led to this game's mixed review such as how in FC5 and here everyone is the same height... that's just stupid and a pet peeve of mine that really hurts the immersion. We had this figured out back in the morrowind days. But I enjoyed the map and the expedition mechanic has lot of cool maps to visit and explore. Yes the dialogue is annoying and the story is overall not good with annoying characters but if you like action RPGs and all that entails... it can be a lot of fun. The ending sucks relative to how FC5 ended... heck the gameplay here is more varied than the base game but that relies on the action RPG mechanics and 'superpowers' which are not what one would expect from a Far Cry title in the first place. It's been over five years I played this game and most likely will never replay it but I did play the hell out of it when I did so it gets a solid recommendation from me. If you hate the idea of not being able to snipe someone with a headshot because he's higher level than you though the game might not be for you.

This is a very slight recommendation. If Steam had a "Meh" button, this game would make the perfect case for it. Far Cry New Dawn suffers from abysmal writing, temu tier wannabe badass antagonist twins, and a story that barely holds together, even if you keep both eyes closed. Honestly, there isn't much depth beyond that. That said, the core gameplay loop is still fun, the combat works well, and the visuals aren't bad. However, I definitely prefer the mainline entries, and out of all the spin-offs, this one is the weakest. It feels like a glorified expansion or a beefy DLC for Far Cry 5 rather than a true, full-fledged standalone game. Not even mentioning the potential a "post-apocalyptic episode" Far Cry had. It's not entirely bad if you grab it deeply discounted on sale to kill a couple of hours, but the potential here is largely unfulfilled. If you're desperately missing that classic Far Cry loop, this will scratch the itch, just don't expect too much from it.
