READ THE MANUAL!!!!! (way too many ppl complaining about how it plays, then you watch their gameplay footage and you see why). i saw it by mistake on the game's library page, under additional content. that manual really took the game from a 4/10 to an 7.5/10 for me. i didnt even know that half of those moves were in the game till i opened the manual. anyways, a really fun beat em up that will test you. tough as nails, and no continues lol (but you earn lives through the scoring system). if you are not willing to play it the way it was designed to be played, you will not enjoy it. this is not SR4. controls take a while to get used to, and again, i don't know why the game manual isn't "IN" the game as a menu option. also, why in the world is stage select in settings lol?? apart from that, i love this game for what it is - just a good old 90's inspired beat-em-up, in every sense of the word. i really like the pixel art as well, you really cant mistake it for another game when you see a screenshot, even if you haven't played it. anyways, its worth your time and money and you are looking for a beat em up that doesn't hold you hand

A tribute to 90s arcade "belt scrollers", from Final Fight to [I]Vendetta (as the title says), from Streets of Rage to the little-known Legionnaire , and everything in between. However, as a game in itself, it is just okay and not worth the full price it's sold at. You should buy it during sales like I did. PROS : + Great graphics with huge, well animated sprites and detailed backgrounds. + Excellent techno-house soundtrack that is very appropriate to the period (the 90s, of course) and the setting. + Good controls (played this with a controller) with a number of button combinations and special moves. + The capoeira twins are hot :P Bananeiro! CONS : - Too short even for an arcade-styled game. - The tribute is so spot-on that there is actually nothing original or new about it, feels like a generic forgotten 90s brawler. - The additional unlockable modes (survival, boss rush and Ultra difficulty) don't really add much of anything. - Ranks are kind of useless since you are automatically given the worst one if you die even once in a level, so what's even the point of hoarding lives? Nice but it could have been better.

Quite a simple and short game without any plot in which there is nothing outstanding. If you like this genre, you can buy at a discount to quickly pass.

Honestly, I absolutely love this game. I was careful to buy it due to the predominant negative review, and then I played it on Easy and managed to beat the whole game in less than an hour - and I struggle to play Streets of Rage 4. I'm now giving Hard mode a go, that's how much I love this game. The presentation is ON POINT - early 90s aesthetic with the visuals - the animations are stupidly fluid and the game feels super responsive. It's an absolute treat on the Steam Deck. And the soundtrack - THE SOUNDTRACK!! Finally, we have a soundtrack worthy of Streets of Rage 2. It is so spot on that I have to replay the game just to hear the soundtrack over and over! I think the gameplay is absolutely bog standard of this affair, with the exception that we now have a block button, which makes things interesting. However, if you've played Streets of Rage 2, you'll know what to expect. It's the same formula - which to be honest, if you're going to copy the game beats from any game, SoR2 is an excellent game to copy from. If I were to say something critical, it is that it seems a bit short. However, that's probably because I had such a blast that I wanted more. Truth be told, it had a decent length and if it had any more levels, I would probably get very tired of the game. I think it's a good, enjoyable game. Definitely recommend.

The game doesn't try much new but is a decent raw brawler. It has good pacing and flow with good encounter layout / design. You get a block, also a side dodge, which if you take the fight to the top or bottom screen bounds it then turns it into a duck and weave without altering character positioning, nice. Use it often, It works well. What's odd is the game never states the above is possible and doesn't even tell you all the moves you can do. You just come across new things as you play. A couple annoyances are with highest difficulty being gated behind having to clear the game with the heavy slow character and a couple bosses have too many invincibility moments making them less fun to fight.
