Just a friendly deranged robot dredging the pelagic deep in a ceaseless quest for biomass.. This is an experience more than a game, and in a sense it is more of a companionable artwork than anything else, and I love it. The premise is simple. You are observing a peculiar little robot fishing at the edge of an abyss with its rudimentary fishing rod. After a while, strange marine animals gather around the peculiar bait, lured in by the patience of the mechanical explorator. The fishing grants you points which lets you upgrade the length of the line, the sinking and reeling factors and your capacity, and this is more or less the length of interactivity you have. You can click on the line while it descends/ascends to speed it up, but I never really bothered with that since the showcase is meditative as it is. You also have a logbook cataloging all the strange catches as well as giving you hints of the beasts you have yet to encounter in your fishing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3463320133 As “idle games” goes, this is more idle than actual gameplay, however the environment, the atmosphere and the overall feeling is spot on. I love the verticality of the fishing where you find weirder and weirder creatures as your line sinks even further down into the hadopelagic zone.. If you consider it more of a meditative tool for getting into the zone while doing arts and crafts or light writing it is near perfect in its peculiar oddity. In short, this game is a perfect companion for those lonely days when you are compiling data for your upcoming ecology project. Conclusion: This gaming experience/work of art or whatever you choose to call it really resonates with me, and I would recommend it if you are intrigued by the thought of a serene fishing companion that grants you a slight escape from your everyday life. It most certainly is not for everyone however, and be mindful that this is not much of a game per se (as clearly stated on the store page). However, for a slightly mad deep sea enthusiast, this is a perfect match.

Tl;dr: Fishing the Abyss is an excellent desktop companion with idle gameplay elements that you can enjoy next to your daily work. Fishing the Abyss is an idle game that rarely requires input from the player unless you are trying your best to get all the achievements. If you are looking for a more active fishing game, this gameplay might not suit you. You can think of this game as a desktop companion rather than an active fishing game, but you can still have occasional inputs that make the fishing process faster and more accurate. The game does not have an apparent story, but the ending by itself is a great touch. I really enjoyed seeing such an ending after I spent hours getting all the fish, and it was the thing that would make the game stay on my mind for a long while. If you are someone who enjoys little narrative touches to your idle or clicker games, Fishing the Abyss has that! The art style of the game is just rad. It has a simple yet effective look, and after transitioning to the second phase of the game, it gets even better. I realized that even a simple additional color can add a whole another level of creepiness to the existing art style, and it is just amazing. Overall, Fishing the Abyss was a really enjoyable idle experience for me, and I recommend it to everyone who would enjoy fishing elements in an idle game. If you enjoy some creepiness in your games, that's a bonus!

Love the game. I would love to be able to choose the rain to keep raining constantly for ambient relaxation. Thanks to Ben I figured out how to move the game window around, a little controls tutorial would be nice :) Edit: Everything I asked for is now in the game :D, super fast, responsive dev, we need more developers like this.

A really cozy, straight-to-the-point desktop idler. It's certainly full of charm and detail, but also dutifully sticks close to the typical formula of the genre. Upgrades are very compact, and progression is very linear. Meaning that your first hour won't feel all too distinct gameplay-wise compared to your last. That's not inherent criticism; it's simply something to note. The in-game art-style is very cute and stylistic. It's at the very least what initially enthralled me about this game. And while neat, the music felt pretty generic. I just opted to mute it during most of my time with the game. For its price-tag it's very much worthwhile, but in its current state just don't expect to have anything keep reeling you back long-term.

Looked like a game with a dark atmosphere at first sight, it turned out to be a super cozy game. What a great mix, love it! Also love the idea of a small, vertical game window which is perfect for an idle game...most of these games only run in full screen/big windows. I'm not surprised tho; the dev seem very supportive and rly cares about the players suggestions and wishes. Games and devs like this deserve much more attention & love! <3
