I'd call it a 50/50 experience. This is one of those games that left me with very mixed feelings. As an art project, I think it works. As a game, I have a lot more questions. The developers throw together a huge number of ideas and inspirations from different sources. Sometimes it feels creative, other times it feels like the game can't decide what it actually wants to be. At first, it works well as a horror game. The atmosphere is tense, and it genuinely manages to make you uncomfortable. But around the middle of the game, that feeling starts to disappear. Instead, you're just running around with no clear idea of what you're supposed to do. Then comes the ending... and it completely changes genres. Suddenly you're running away from a monster while trying not to die laughing because of how ridiculous everything on the screen becomes. Atmosphere vs. Gameplay The visual style is quite unique, the atmosphere is strong, and the sound design is genuinely impressive. It's also fairly cheap and doesn't take long to finish. Unfortunately, the gameplay can be frustrating. Large parts of the game are confusing for the wrong reasons, and the final section feels completely disconnected from everything that came before.
Even though I haven’t finished the game yet and haven’t completed it, after playing for just one evening I experienced incredible enjoyment. The game is very atmospheric, the sounds slowly drive you mad, and I even felt like I was in "The Lighthouse" by Robert Eggers (definitely watch it if you liked the game). The first hour of gameplay (it took me about an hour, though it might be shorter if you rush) feels very similar to the film mentioned above. I really liked this part. After that, the game starts to turn more into Lovecraftian horror and some kind of psychedelic experience. For now, I don’t have much more to add since I haven’t finished the game yet. I’m curious to see how it all ends and whether I’ll go completely insane by the end of the playthrough :) Updated: Well, I finished the game and I’m planning to replay it because I realized there might be different endings. I’ll also try to complete it with 100% achievements. I really liked the game, even though at times it was a bit difficult to understand what exactly was happening. The game strongly reminded me of the film The Lighthouse, which I mentioned before. I loved that movie, and although the game has more Lovecraftian elements, almost every lighthouse scene felt like something straight out of the film. I don’t know whether the developer was inspired by it or not, but I really enjoyed the similarity. I would give the game a 9/10. At times it felt a bit too pixelated (I understand that it’s inspired by the PS1 style, but the visuals could have been a bit clearer). Still, despite that, the game visually conveys the madness happening in the story very well. I also felt that the sound design could have been stronger. It would have been great to hear more sounds for example, loud foghorn noises like in the film it would have added even more tension to the atmosphere and strengthened the feeling of growing madness. Overall, the game is definitely worth your attention, and I think anyone who enjoys strange, unsettling, and unconventional stories will like it.
