On a surface level, it's a FMV dating sim, but it's in fact a passionate love letter to beautiful hunk of a man called Callum.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Dates — Or: How I Spent Several Hours Judging Strangers Through My Monitor Like a Very Polite God Let me begin by saying this: Five Dates is not a game. It is an interactive social experiment in which you are given control of a mildly anxious London man named Vinny and asked to navigate modern dating while the rest of us sit behind a screen, making life-altering romantic decisions with the same confidence we use to choose Netflix thumbnails.Which is to say: recklessly. The Premise (or: Speed Dating, But Make It Existential) You are Vinny. Vinny is single. Vinny is on a dating app. Vinny lives in London during lockdown. Already this feels less like a game and more like a BBC documentary. You’re presented with five potential dates, each beamed into your home via video call, which means the entire romance unfolds like a Zoom meeting where everyone remembered to put on trousers (mostly). There are no swords. No skill trees. No loot boxes. Your only weapons are: +Tone of voice +Facial expressions +And the catastrophic power of saying the wrong thing about hobbies. Gameplay: Choose Your Own Social Disaster Mechanically, the game is simple: Person asks question. You choose response. Person reacts. But emotionally? It’s like defusing a bomb while also trying to flirt. Every dialogue choice feels weighted with the quiet terror of real life: “Do I joke?” “Do I be sincere?” “Do I pretend I enjoy hiking?” One incorrect sentence and suddenly someone’s eyebrows go up in a way that says, Right. I will emotionally disengage now. And that’s the genius of Five Dates. It perfectly recreates the sensation of real dating, where one misplaced comment about pineapple on pizza can erase your entire romantic future. The Characters: A Carefully Curated Museum of Modern Humanity Each date is lovingly crafted to represent a different flavour of human being. You get: +The confident one +The awkward one +The spiritual one +The intense one +The one who definitely owns crystals They’re all charming in their own way, and also mildly alarming, like people you’d meet at a wedding and immediately start ranking in your head. What’s impressive is how real they feel. Not “Hollywood real.” Actual real. As in: they talk too much sometimes. They overshare. They have oddly specific opinions. At one point I forgot I was playing a game and started mentally preparing polite exit strategies. Production Value: Surprisingly Not Awful This is FMV (full motion video), which historically means “this will either be incredible or deeply cursed.” Thankfully, Five Dates lands on the good side. The acting is genuinely solid. The writing is sharp. The awkward pauses feel intentional rather than accidental. Everyone behaves like actual people instead of walking romance tropes, which is refreshing in a genre usually powered by anime sighs and dramatic hair flips. Also, special mention to Vinny’s facial expressions, which deserve their own BAFTA. That man’s eyebrows do more emotional labour than most therapists. The Real Gameplay Loop: Self-Reflection Here’s the unexpected twist: You don’t just learn about the characters. You learn about yourself. Because at some point you realise: -You are very conflict-avoidant. -You panic when asked about future plans. -You will absolutely choose “safe polite answer” over “honest personality.” This game gently exposes your dating instincts like a psychological MRI. By the end, I wasn’t sure whether I’d completed a romantic adventure or undergone a soft personality audit. Criticisms (Because I’m British and It’s Mandatory) *Some conversations end just as they get interesting. *A few branches feel shorter than expected. *Occasionally you’ll wish you could say, “Actually, can I rewind that sentence from 30 seconds ago?” But honestly? That’s dating.Real life also has terrible autosave. Final Verdict Five Dates is clever, awkward, charming, and quietly brutal in how accurately it captures modern romance. It’s not about winning. It’s about navigating vulnerability with a mouse. You will cringe. You will laugh. You will accidentally ruin at least one promising relationship because you picked the wrong joke. And somehow, you’ll enjoy all of it. Rating: 4.5 / 5 emotionally compromised teacups Recommended if you enjoy: ☑ British humour ☑ Social anxiety simulators ☑ Making romantic decisions while wearing pyjamas ☑ Watching a man named Vinny carry the weight of your choices A charmingly absurd, slightly ridiculous, and entirely delightful romp through virtual courtship — like having tea with fate while fate accidentally hits play on a rom-com starring your best mate. If you enjoy modern dating chaos wrapped in surreal charm, then this is your cup of tea. Give it a whirl, and see how many different ways love can awkwardly wink at you.

This game has a good variety of options to make your way through it with all the different girls. I really liked that of the girls you can date, no two are alike. They are all unique and have different personalities with pros and cons. When I first saw all the profiles for the dates, I thought I would like Paige the most, but surprisingly, I ended up enjoying the dates with Shaina the most. Shaina and the MC had a lot of natural chemistry that seemed effortless and true. Shaina's dates were definitely the most fun. There were times when I thought the acting of people was a bit...off, especially from Callum - it seemed very forced and a tad too obvious that he was playing a character. It also often felt like I was a third wheel on these dates, and at times, I felt very awkward watching things unfold on screen, lol. The only issues I would urge to be fixed are that the volume levels do fluctuate with no rhyme or reason, so it was annoying having to readjust them so often. Also, the save function is no good. You cannot manually save. It saves just before you exit the game, and you are forced to pick up there. I wish you could make multiple saves and pick among them. It would make more people want to keep playing and try the various available paths and options. I acquired this game when it initially came out and wasn't fully released, thus, it was free. Seeing the price now, I would say that the nearly 15 bucks for it is a bit steep for how short it is. But overall, I give the game a thumbs up.

For $5, I think this game is worth trying. It's not for everyone. I am not sure if it is for me. But I am a girl. I want to see a guy version of this where the 'dates' are males and you can see how crazy men can be. LOL In this game, you play from the point of view of a hetero-guy, Vinny, who is trying online dating for the first time. You are coached by your bestie, who is really funny. Vinny goes on web dates with various women. The women that are portrayed here have a lot of what are probably 'red flags.' Was that intentional? I am only a few minutes into the game, but I find as a female it is really easy to guess what the female wants to hear. So maybe this game would be more fun if you were a guy and I can see guys using this as training on how to talk to women. I feel like the responses of the women are pretty believable so far and easy to deduce. I am a little confused as to what the objective of the game is? There is a score meter that shows how well you get a long with your 'date'. I had one of the 'dates' basically be a druggie who ghosted me for a joint. -.- Then, I had another one that felt like she was judging me really harshly & I found myself trying to appease her. LOL I am hoping the game ends with a moral of the story to just be yourself. The game is entertaining. But again, I would like to see a reverse version. So many of these FMVs are from the point of view of male characters. I think women are a gaming audience too! @ Wales Interactive, if you are reading this. There is an customer-base of female gamers too.

Nice game. Vinny is a pretty cool guy, and the girls are alright. But you know whose even better? My boy Callum! Callum the real OG. Should make my buddy Callum as a dating option, cowards.
