April 2026
I struggled on how to rate this one. I think this game is going to polarize opinion somewhat, because there's going to be a lot of people wanting it to be something very specific and it's not going to deliver. In the end I'm going with thumbs up because I can see so much work has gone into this, and it really does have some neat features. Overall I enjoyed my time in the game and I'd buy a game from the same devs in future. Positives: * The items are about 95%? unique. There's some repeat of furniture in the last few levels, but each level has its own either environment quirk or individual decorations to make it stand out. * Each item feels hand-crafted. They're not generic, and usually they don't repeat. e.g. you have 3 mugs, one is a cat climbing the cup, another is a hollow pumpkin, the third is a red mug. That's not exact, but you get the idea, there's not 3 boring plain blue mugs. Items change shape as you interact with them, so if you pick up a pillow it slumps around the grip point, a folded blanket drapes at each end, and it changes depending on how you pick it up and move it. It's a lot of detail, it's very clever. * The rooms have interesting environmental quirks, particularly later in the game. I won't reveal them but interacting with the environment reveals cute mechanisms or ways to decorate. * Lights turn on and off, radios play music, ornaments are often interactive, TVs play images, you have to click on things and see. * You have to clean each room first, and then repair it. This is actually my favourite part of the game honestly. Cleaning windows, mopping floors, tiling walls etc. I could just do this all game and let others do the furniture. * The sound design. Everything has its own placement/interaction sound, and so does the decorating. Laying tiles and floorboards was particularly satisfying, but each item sounds like it should when you move it, it's not a generic click or thud. Neutrals: * The game is short, around 4-5 hours. For the price and the quality of the visuals I think this is worth it, particularly compared to other similar games in the genre where there's much less attention to detail. I did not feel cheated, despite having some gripes and dislikes. * There is no customisation. The rooms are set pieces with specific styles, and they're very varied. You do have to accept that as you go in, this is not a game where you design the entire space to your liking and preferences. You're using the items from someone else's life. Negatives: * If you're here from Unpacking and you're looking for a story told through environmental storytelling, this isn't it. There are some elements that you see turn up in different rooms where you're like yeah, that's from his son, or that's a picture of that person from before, but overall this does not have the same elegant, emotional depth and impact of Unpacking and its "how dare he not make space for her diploma!!" situations. Honestly there were only a couple of times when I knew what the story was supposed to be, and I stopped trying to find it after a while. There does appear to be some kind of overarching story going on in the background, but frankly it lost me very quickly. * My favourite part of the game - the cleaning and repairing - can be extremely clunky. The controls on keyboard and mouse are awkward to the point of being frustrating when it comes to moving paint rollers and mops etc. The leaf sweeping in particular had me wanting to shut the game off it was just so tedious. On the other hand, if you're super patient and careful and slowly clean each bit the game "good enough!"'s it when there's still sections to clean and completes the task for you. Infuriating. (But useful if you just can't move the brush in the right way to get that last spot.) * So much furniture and nowhere to put it. I like to see everything I have before I start, so I unpack it all first. When you're struggling for space and you're still only halfway through the boxes it's not a good sign. On the other hand there'll be space designers out there that relish the challenge and/or simply are better at packing stuff into small spaces than I am. I thought many of these people just had too much stuff. * There's a lot of detail. How many radios can I turn on before I don't care any more? If a filing cabinet ripples its drawers open and closed that's neat but it doesn't contribute to the gameplay for me. If it opened to reveal 3 more items to place, now that would be a different matter. By the end I was indifferent to playing with the knick-knacks and just wanted to get the room done. Summary: I enjoyed this game, and my main gripe is that the controls are a bit clunky at times. The best thing to me was the uniqueness to the items, and the interesting mechanical additions to the way the rooms worked. The Dark Music Hall and the Penthouse in particular were favourites. If the price point bothers you wait for a sale, and don't expect an endless mode or a fully creative mode with the base game at time of this review. Otherwise it's a good room tidying and unpacking game unique in its attention to design details.

Finished in 3 hours. Technologically speaking, this game is ahead in terms of the satisfying cleaning content. I do however feel that the game is a touch short for the price. I wish there was a "free mode" after beating it, where players can take all the assets and decorate the existing rooms. Regardless, great use of Lumen and shader work.

For someone who often feels overwhelemed in free-style decorating games, Hozy does a lot of things right for me. I love that I can finally play a clean up and restoration game that isn't first person FOV. It starts off with simple enough tasks like cleaning the floors and wiping windows but as the game progresses, other tasks are incorporated such as raking leaves, installing floor boards, sawing wood. This may sound silly but I like the level of realism with some of the tools. When you paint for example, you can actually run out of paint and have to recoat your brush in between strokes. Once everything is tidied up, you can customize the space a bit by selecting wall paint colours and unboxing personal items to decorate to your tastes. There are no timers, grading systems or special requests. You can pick and choose what you want to place and how, even getting rid of decorations you don't want to use which I appreciated. There are tidbits to discover along the way and I feel like this game encourages a bit of mindfulness, rewarding you for slowing down to interact with the map and the items. The sound effects and visuals are really pleasing, so make sure to click everything!! I think if you are looking for a more complex decorating experience, where you can let your creative juices flow by having a myriad of options, you won't find that here. The levels have 3 wall paint options and you do not get to adjust the flooring. Furthermore, you cannot individually customize the items you are unpacking. So that might be stifling for some. But for me it was the perfect balance of cleaning and decorating. Light, simple and stress free. Update: worth noting, there appears to be only 9 levels that I can identify on the map. I am 4 levels in at 2 hours. So just something to consider when you look at the price tag.

I loved the demo, so I was really excited to play the full game, but honestly I'm a little bit disappointed. The visuals and overall atmosphere are flawless. Each room introduces new mechanics, and it’s genuinely relaxing to explore. I especially loved the treehouse and the café… even if it hurt a little to cover that gorgeous brick wall with wallpaper ;/ . That said, I have a few issues. First, in rooms 2 and 3, some furniture from the demo, like the round armchair and the red sofa, just isn’t there anymore, which I don’t really get. I was expecting more variety, not fewer options. Also, some levels, like the penthouse, could use a little less decorations and more furniture. And I have to say, I really didn’t enjoy the “dream” level. My game glitched and wouldn’t let me paint, so I got stuck and had to restart twice, which was pretty frustrating. And I get the idea behind reusing furniture from previous houses for storytelling, but it ends up feeling a bit repetitive and, honestly, kind of lazy. Overall, it’s still a good game, I don’t regret buying it at all. Big kudos to the developers ! But there are quite a few small issues that could really use some attention, maybe in future updates?
