Absolute blast of a campaign. This is the "purest" action game with great melee and shooting combat, and amazing graphics that hold up till today. I became a Warhammer fan with this game and am now diving into the books. Really great world and lore. The multiplayer is surprisingly active too.
"Space Marine" is a short experience but full of action. You take on the role of badass Space Marine, equipped with a diverse range of weapons to complete your mission. It mixes and matches melee with ranged combat in a way that allows you to take full control of the battlefield. I found myself feeling like I was playing a DOOM game, with an array of different weapons to massacre hundreds of enemies, executions to recover health, etc. It has a ton of its own personality, like being third person and having heavier movement, but the action-filled feeling is all the same. Combat is hard, but as you progress and gain experience, you start identifying enemies' weaknesses and how to deal with them. Each weapon serves its purpose, and you're going to have an easier time if you choose your loadout correctly. Shooting and melee combat both feel only mediocre at best. The story is passable, it just follows the same formula already done tons of times. Graphics for a 2011 release hold up remarkably well today. Sound design also felt good. I'm excited to try out its sequel and see what Captain Titus is up to these days.
This game feels like stepping back into the Xbox 360 era. It gives strong Gears of War vibes with its easy combat, straightforward level design, and no-nonsense action. The graphics have definitely aged, but the gameplay still holds up. You genuinely feel like an unstoppable Space Marine, tearing through endless waves of Orks with a chainsword and bolter, and somehow it never gets old. I played the entire game on the Steam Deck, and it ran surprisingly well. It did crash twice late on (around 6 hours of non-stop gaming), but after the third launch, I didn't have any more issues, and the rest of the playthrough was smooth. The story was actually engaging, and I ended up enjoying the twists and turns that Captain Titus has to go through. I would 100% recommend this game when it hits one of its sales, especially if you want that old Xbox 360 nostalgia.
Pretty fun game. One huge flaw it has is that the game can crash in different sections. On the 6th chapter I had a part where I just couldn’t get past a cutscene without crashing and it made my fans go crazy too. You need to play this by searching up a github fix, SpaceMarineCoreFix, put the file into the game folder, and it’ll likely fix everything. That aside, gameplay is great, story is interesting but doesn’t get in the way of the fun, and it’s just a decent game to play while chatting with friends or to wind down without needing to fully lock in, like you do with sweaty multiplayer or crazy story heavy games. Definitely worth the $10
