I'm in a bit of a waiting room for "Everybody's Golf Hot Shots" which releases in September, so was looking for a golf style game to scratch that itch. I've had this in my library since 2022 but never really gave it a good shot. In fairness, the UI is a little clunky in places and the game can look very daunting at first. However, once you do some investigating of the UI and put down one or two good looking holes after some planning, you get gripped and before you know it you've sunk a couple of hours in. I get Theme Park World vibes from this, a 90s/00s style game where you keep visitors happy. It's quite restricted in some ways with what you can do or build, but nevertheless i've made some creations I can be content with. Ultimately, there isn't really a market for this kind of game, so it's hard to say that it's market-leading or competitor-beating. That said, it's a decent little game and if you like golf style games this could be worth it for you on sale. Just be warned, while you can play your own creations and host tournaments, it really isn't a very functional or realistic golf-sim style mode - so don't expect to go in and finesse the courses. It's 99% a course building game and 1% a playing sim. Would recommend, it won't set the world on fire, but it'll give you something to do for a good few hours!

It is honestly so fun how creative you can get with building holes. So much fun.

Mine is not the first review to mention Sid Meier's Sim Golf, one of my fav games ever, and that this was sold as a spiritual successor. It's enjoyable as a pure golf course building simulator, especially with all the new bells and whistles that the futuristic "crazy devices" bring to it, and you have plenty of room to make a course as big or small as you want thanks to the quick transport methods the game gives you for people. Unfortunately, I will say this game does have quite a few faults. The excruciating waiting (for cash build-up, membership increases, your turn on the course, etc.) is a problem, but it would be less of one if the game actually had more to do and see in it other than just making the course. In Sim Golf there were stories amongst the golfers, your course could be selected for tournaments based on how well you've built your course, you were given notes on how to tweak holes, you had employees to manage and move around, and the like. It felt like you were on a golf course that was in the real world, if only a little bit. In this game there's not a whole lot going on except for Roller Coaster Tycoon-esque feedback from people, and only unnamed Tournaments that you can start yourself regardless of how big, good, or successful the course is. The worst part of the game is probably the actual golfing, which is clunky and incredibly unresponsive until you've slowly managed to auto-master every skill (and even then isn't particularly fun). Aiming down the middle of the fairway while four shots in a row go 50 yards to the left onto the pathing instead is something I'd expect in REAL golf, not a video game where I own a country club. Overall, I'd call it a good enough game to be worth the purchase if you enjoy building golf courses (especially if you enjoy the concept of the weird futuristic additions to the game like the bumpers and fans, which I do) but disappointing as a full experience.

A futuristic version of Sim Golf. Would be more fun if the future part was an option.

GolfTopia stands out as the best golf management game I’ve ever played. It offers the freedom to design your golf course exactly how you envision it. I’ve had a blast crafting unique holes and exploring new worlds, especially the large map. While I do use cheats to eliminate pesky elements like weeds, the game strikes a perfect balance between business management and creative map building.
