this game is full of love from the developer- i am not a fan of arc system works fighters but this game is very well made and is worth playing after falling in love with relink and is worth the thumbs up despite me not planning to play it anymore- i dont like pressing a button and making a 3 hit combo and then linking to a 10 hit combo after without even trying.
I played it a bit more when it came out on consoles, but I gave up early and decided to give it a second chance here. It's good, I guess. I paid almost nothing for the game, so I don't have much to complain about. Essentially, if you don't live in the US or Japan, the game is dead. I mean, even if you are in those regions, you might not find anyone... Assuming you can connect to the server. But it's a great entry-level game, very casual-friendly, reducing the barrier on execution in favor of fundamentals and small, precise combos, while still maintaining the feeling of doing something flashy The presentation, as is typical of ArcSys games, is unmatched. They achieved the best translation of anime aesthetics to video games and remain at the top of their game. It doesn't get better than this. Except, of course, in other ArcSys games. But, also, as is typical, the single-player experience is highly limited. Which makes the game's appeal practically nonexistent. It's clear that these games, modern and old, barely have anything to offer someone with even a minimum of experience. The AI is consistently terrible, bordering on incapable of handling anything organically, or literally impossible to beat normally, with perfect input readings and punishments that basically condition the player to cheese the AI to have any chance. Simulating fun mid-level gameplay without another player still feels far from reality. And the alternative game modes do little to alleviate this situation. So that's it. It's worth a look and little else beyond that. It offers a few hours of fun.
Be aware that Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising exists, so whatever player base is probably in that game. Multiplayer is dead for this. But GBFV is a great fighting game for what it is. Characters are unique and fun to learn and play with. There are also enough modes, such as the story and the additional RPG mode that comes with equipment, drops and crowd clearing, kind of like a simplified 2D beat-them-up, that allows for coop play which is pretty fun to mess around in with a friend. Overall, fun game even if the online is dead, get it super cheap to play with friends and you will have fun.
