Yes, but also somewhat no. When I saw this announced/release years ago, I was relatively excited to see another game from these devs. But looking at it, the "vibes" seemed a bit off, so I left it languishing in my wishlist. I got it on sale later, and... my initial assessment was correct. The art and designs are enjoyable; characterization ranges from ok to great; the humor is a mixed bag, but generally good; sound/music is fine. It's the game part, and how the story is presented/unfolds, where things get a bit iffy. It falls into the point-and-click-adventure trope of "need to do this thing specifically in a certain way that may not logically make sense" thing, since it basically is getting items/dialogue to throw at people/objects to progress. Not too bad, but still somewhat annoying at times; which can also be said for the "combat" events. Also, the story felt like they were going for something "grander" than the actual result, not to mention, the plot tips it's hand way too early. I felt it was a worthwhile experience, even with the so-so gameplay.
I do think this is a game that falls heavily on your mileage. Depending on how much you personally love the writing, this could be one of your favorite games of all time or just kinda meh. I think I lean more towards the meh. I enjoyed the game overall, but I never really felt a deep connection to the plot and characters. I did really like the final sequence, while it's not one that is going to impact me in the long run, I think it was well done. I really do like this game on a visual level. The whimsical nature of the art really does make the world feel fresh. The 3D God segments also rock as they stand out from the normal world sections. Another thing i really love is the real life sections viva the tvs, they really show the love that went into this game, art wise. The audio is also really solid; it really nails the mood in each location, and I think they do a good job with the animal crossing, especially gibberish. I see why people love posting the gods on social media. While none of them really did much for me, they were always a treat to see. I especially liked the god of art being a weird Dr. Seuss-like thing. They perfectly nailed making characters look and act unique. The last real area and then the following sequence were both really good. I feel neither was ground breaking, but they definitely kept me engaged, despite how little I was connecting to the story itself. As I mentioned, sadly, the story never hit me in a meaningful way. There is some good messaging about dealing with insecurities in a healthy way, but in terms of investment, I never did. I think part of the reason is the stakes felt way too high for a game that is honestly really short. The game didn't have enough time to really make you worry for each character's safety or the fate of the room. With how short the game is you really are not allowed any time with the characters, especially since, outside of a couple of characters, most are not recurring. I found it to be somewhat tedious as well, trying to figure out what words go to the proper place, worse being the third area. I felt I was dragging myself just trying to figure out how I was meant to please the gods there. It wasn't the worst by any means, but it did affect the overall enjoyment. I definitely think some people are going to love this game, and I definitely think it's one people should try for themselves. You can tell a lot of love and passion went into this game. The way it uses its art looks really great and unique. The devs also clearly put a lot of time into character design/ writing. I did have fun with the game and don't regret playing it. While I didn't personally super connect to it, I easily see others really loving it. It's a really cool project to have come out.
I'm a HUGE fan of this game! I initially watched a gameplay... but ever since I've started playing it myself I've discovered endless fun interactions and opportunities within the game. Amazing story and message, beautiful art and character design, the OST is a BOP, gameplay is super unique, and the use of puppets and mixed media is so fun! Please, if you're interested in this game, play it yourself. It is endless fun and I'd replay it over and over.
