After only 2 hours, I can tell this is going to be on par if not better than one of the greatest and underrated Metroidvanias ever made, Grime. It is criminal how unknown this game is. Far and away the most beautiful art design, incredible combat, map design etc. I cannot wait to soak in every second - Edit after 12 more hours. This is becoming my favorite metroidvania of all time. I hate that this game has gotten almost no attention. It is on the level of Silksong and Blasphemous, (I think its better than Blasphemous and on par with silksong). This dev deserves so much more credit.

The original Grime is my second favorite game of all time, only superseded by Elden Ring. I’ve played 100+ metroidvanias and soulslikes and it just NAILED everything. Atmosphere, combat, exploration, OST, platforming, enemy variety… all top notch. I’m mentioning this for context because I went into Grime 2 with some seriously high expectations. Somehow it has exceeded expectations and everything is an evolution of the first game. I haven’t been this hooked on a game in years and if it continues on this pace, it will be my game of the year without a doubt.

GRIME II IS ART, NOT JUST AN IMPROVEMENT FROM THE FIRST GAME TO NOW -GAME REVIEWED ON: (GeForce GT 1030/i7-3770 ) Ok so...Let me tell you all that I never finished the first game which I got free on Epic Store, and there were times where it felt frustrating and confusing. I was really hyped for the first game back then, but too much into it past three hours was enough to let me down somewhat, or do not see it as a priority and move on. I can confirm that this sequel not only fixed a lot of a lot and implemented new mechanics, but also made the game more friendlier and enjoyable. Difficulty spikes can be lowered with new damage output options, making the game a smoother ride for those that want to beat it asap, or want to feel the adventure and story without frustrating yourselves much. And honestly, even if you configure it the game is still balanced and you will be required to upgrade your character and get strong even so. Making it easier won't affect the fun factor all in all for casual players. -The sequel at times feels likes it has more of a protagonistic vibe than the first game, your character looks like a yucky and still cool version of Alex Mercer (Prototype series). The movement and combat has style and you can change your look depending on the armor/costumes you find while exploring and beating enemies. You can dash with minimum cooldowns, making Boss fights easier and more adaptable to your way of playing. Platforming does not feel clunky at all, unless you're playing on demanding graphics I guess? Stamina has been cut off the sequence, and one can feel free to combat at their own pace. Parry takes some perfect timings just like any other game, but feels easier here than it was back in the first game. The core mechanic in this game is absorbing different foes and using their mold to your liking, in the process experimenting with different combinations, combos, and skills to counter everything. Trully satisfying. Scenery is beautiful, and to my surprise the game ran far more smoother than the first game. There is obviously a lot to say, but I really liked how the game feels more of a casual trip and Metroidvania, than something tougher. Grime 2 so far has been quite the experience, and I play my games for it's story and characters more than anything. This game was made in a way that advancing deep into it all does not feel like an issue at the moment, but the review might change later on? -Also want to mention something important: The Developer behind this game is something else. Since the first Grime, he has been monitoring pirated game sites, expressing his gratitude, and inviting players to speak themselves our on Steam/Discord ect. The amount of love and dedication they/he gave the game is pretty clear, and he's heard most of the complaints in the past game and decided to take all that into consideration. I have not bought the first game because I already have it, but for all of you who have not played the first Grime and or like the sequel, supporting Yarden Weissbrot's GRIME and his other projects doesn't sound like a bad idea considering his approach to the community and how he cares. Really looking forward to playing more of this later, cheers to a peak job, and a splattered masterpiece.

Grime 1 is one of the most unique and beautiful (and to me best) metroidvanias of all time. This game seems to be very much its Silk Song. Atmosphere, art direction, mood, movement, and music are all stellar. Very excited to keep going. If you liked Grime, you'll almost certainly love this. If you haven't played Grime, try it now, now, NOW

First of all, in my opinion, the first Grime is a very underrated gem, which deserves much more attention. But the second chapter went further and added a lot of interesting mechanics, design ideas, cool enemies and bosses. Of course I need to finish the game to tell my final thoughts, but now the game is very satisfying so far.
