Tl;dr: Very jank but where else can you get a VR soulslike experience. Pros: + Cool weapon crafting/customization + Satisfying if sometimes frustrating combat + Decent graphics + Surprisingly good voice acting + Wasn't a lot of music but what was there was good + No issues with PSVR2 on PC Cons: - Really bad pop in that also includes enemies - Weapons felt a bit floaty - Couldn't adjust belt, only overall height. The auto detect height was way off - The game doesn't explain some mechanics well or at all - Lame final boss Closing Thoughts: It was really cool to have a soulslike experience in VR. I hope the next one from these guys or anyone else that tries their hand at it is more polished though. I didn't try magic outside of the tutorial so I can't comment on how that was. I'd say it's worth checking out on a sale.
Absolutely fantastic game! It has really good replay potential and the bosses are both unique and challenging. Good: -High quality models and voice acting -Tons of bosses with cool themes and arenas -Combat works really well with having slash, pierce, blunt, lightning, fire etc types actually mattering. Aiming for vitals in between armor, and using blunt weapons to break armor feels awesome -Melee combat feels good, but not perfect. (This will be changing with the upcoming combat rework) -Good total playtime for a single playthrough. Especially if you take the time to explore. -Physical potion drinking is always a plus for me and it really makes you feel like it is an estus flask -Insanely good value for $30. You would expect this game to cost more given the amount of content Bad: -Drawing the magic sigils can be scuffed on a few spells (This will be changing with the upcoming combat rework) -Perk tree is boring (This will be changing with the upcoming combat rework)
This game is the best you can get to fulfilling the fantasy of being a medieval knight (in a dark fantasy setting). It is very demanding, but feels fair most of the time (two of the bosses are very hard to beat, but I enjoyed the whole thing too much to give up). "Dark Souls in VR" is a very accurate comparison. Swinging, parrying, deflecting – it all feels really good. Shooting a bow is very satisfying. Once you realize opponents have weak spots that you can exploit with certain weapons, swings, or stabs, and you become more confident with your fighting style, it just feels great. It is also a very rich and stunning world to traverse. If you adore VR and knightly vibes, it's a must-play.
