WOW!!! Hardland is criminally overlooked. If more people played this game, the world might be a better place. I say that as a joke, and yet there is truth to it. Elevator pitch is that it's basically Zelda meets Twin Peaks. It's an astounding accomplishment for a tiny development team. Outstanding art style, writing and world building, and just a sense of fun and adventure. Only caveat is that it is more of a puzzle game than action. That's not a flaw, it's the idea behind the game. Combat is present but after awhile you realize there's no real danger. So while it has the trappings of an action rpg, that stuff is more or less superfluous. Hopefully these devs are up for a sequel that could excite as well as mystify. But if you're a Zelda fan, or puzzles, or fantasy adventure, or uniqueness, then this is pure gold. Buy it, pay these guys, then dive into Hardland over a pint or two. And don't spoil anything for yourself, it's actually not that tricky to "win" and by then you'll realize winning was the least important thing... And no worries about bugs with the finished product. I had no trouble

Really funl game so far. It's like playing a dream works or Pixar movie. This game has some MAJOR story telling potential. I get a Zelda vibe from it mixed with Fable, only 100% open world, with many destructible items while holding its own unique style. I purposely play for a bit, stop for a week, then come back and check out the amazing things that have been added. If you like supporting indie companies and want a fun alpha in return, then this is your game. I don't see why this game, fully done, with a Disney quality story, couldn't be game of the year, obviously far off from this current state, but it has that much potential in my opinion.

Great artstyle, combat isn't as bad as a lot of reviews say. It's nothing special though. Mostly just hit and run hit and run, unless there's something I'm missing. It's challenging at least. It's fun exploring and grave robbing but I just can't find much to do really. Not many quests that I have found so far. Im gonna leave this as a positive review for now because early impressions are great. I'm gonna keep playing but if the whole game is almost questless and as story deprived as I've seen so far I will have to change it to negative. Edit: Found lots of quests and story. The game just doesn't hold your hand. Worth a buy!

Wow, so far I am amazed. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of it yet and already I can tell it was well worth buying at full price. Great game to grab if you find it on sale. This is actually the first game I have ever given a review fora game and that is because it deserves a great rating. Very nostalgic in gameplay style, reminds me of the N64 classic Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or Fable or something of that nature. I like that it leaves you to figure out things for yourself instead of blatantly guiding you to story plot points. TALK TO EVERYONE, the more you can learn about the world around you the better your experience will be. I look forward to finishing this one and seeing everything it has to offer.

Wow, writing this review in the hopes it reaches out to others who see this title, who wonders why it has so many recent negative reviews. Hardland has been in early access for some years; I bought the game early because I thought it looked interesting - it delivered it with silly hat shenanigans and a wonderful world. Except stayed in EA for over a year in which we heard nothing from the team, leading to the many negative reviews at present. The team just posted an update (apparently, they have spent the last 18 months working on the game, with a heavy focus on writing the story and implementing it into the game from what I understand) and is finally nearing completion. I just want people to know there is a good game here, well worth your time, which doesn't deserve to be completely downvoted. The team could have done better communicating what they were working on, the review score would certainly be better if they had. But I can't in good conscience sit by without trying to work against this trend of writing negative reviews because people think the games abandoned. Which is fair enough, but thats not where the game is now. And to the devs, perhaps you could make a demo as a sort of goodwill gesture? It might help soften the reviews. I hope you found this review helpful; it was my first and probably my last, cheers.
