The full 100 hour length of this game is peak cinema. I kindly await for the next entry in the series. But here's some nitpicks I have: English translation needs to be improved by A LOT. No voiced dialogue means you can't just force autoplay, it makes it very easy to miss lines. I recommend to at least add a dialogue history in the game, especially when this game is very dialogue-heavy. Also, the game might be too easy with how many tools and strong moves the characters have.

I recommend this one with some caveats. It is far far better than the previous game and there's enough backstory that you don't need to play that extremely rough prequel, which seems like an early beta demo by comparison. The English text needs a lot more proofreading, but it's not to the point that the ability to understand what is going on is hindered. This is an action RPG with metroidvania elements and will keep you occupied a good while. The cutscenes are many and can be lengthy, but the story moves along at a good pace. Speaking of the story, it feels like they were intending to lay groundwork for a sequel, which, as of the time this review is posted, does not exist yet as far as I know. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger like the previous game did, but there are definitely a lot of unanswered questions, like the end of Empire Strikes Back and the like.

An overall massive improvement from the first game, this one has solid gameplay, very fun story and LOTS and LOTS of beautiful artwork, the soundtrack is also great, if you liked the first game this is a must play. The character development is really neat and getting to learn about Shama's past was very interesting. Sub-characters and engravings feel so good to use, they quickly become the most powerful part of your toolkit and being able to use 5 engravings at once is really cool and also really broken (but it's fun so it doesn't matter). One thing I have to say is that the translation isn't perfect, it has lots of little issues and typos, sometimes the automatic text goes by unreasonably fast, making it impossible to read. Another issue that I had is that the nightmare difficulty is pretty much meaningless if you use the guardian owls, they're too plentiful and too powerful, I'd suggest not allowing their use (at least during boss fights, I think that being able to use them on stages is fine) on nightmare difficulty, I finished the game with 50 of them in my bag and I never bought one from a merchant, if I did I'd easily be able to have over 100 of them, another possible solution would be to severely limit the maximum amount the played can hold on nightmare difficulty, like 1 or 2 max would work well I think. I wish it had a CG collection or an artbook (I can imagine that an artbook would be a lot of work but I think a CG Gallery wouldn't be too hard and it'd be a great addition, all the artwork in this game is superb). As with the first game, this is a very dialogue-heavy game but this one has a pretty good gameplay/dialogue ratio, the pacing gets slower at certain chapters but it usually doesn't last too long before you get back to playing. It does end in a cliffhanger so until we get another game the story is not over yet and you might feel a little unsatisfied with the ending, I know I did. Even so this is very much worth playing, it's a very unique experience and it deserves more recognition!

Sometimes the game felt more like a visual novel than ARPG and had plenty of questionably gameplay choices, but it was still very enjoyable to play and i loved the story, characters and atmosphere of the game. Overall very solid game.

Heroine Anthem 2: Scalescars Oath is a side-scroller RPG. Don't be fooled by appearances, it is not a Metroidvania in the traditional sense. To process the story you must follow the storyline and speak to certain characters. It is a story-rich game with a lot of dialogue and character expression. It is well done, but you will be annoyed by the constant cutscenes if you buy this looking for a metroidvania. If you're looking for a VISUAL NOVEL with sidescroller action gameplay as a change of pace then this is for you. Be mindful that the main protagonist is lightly dressed in the introduction of the game but then suddenly she starts dressing like a tomboy for the remainder of the game. If you're okay with a tomboy protagonist well, the artwork is amazing, the environments beautiful, and character designs are very cool. Not least the viking-like character designs that are met frequently, even though the trailer won't tell you that. However the waifus, who often are traveling merchants, will sometimes show a lot of skin and I'd categorize the game into the "ecchi" genre. One could easily add some adult scenes to this setting and no one would be surprised... The action gameplay is so-so, it's a very easy game. The boss fights require some strategizing but due to plenty of revive items it was very forgiving. This game is recommended for visual novel fans who want some action sprinkled in. Yes, I'll say it again, even more clearly this time: the player is spammed with dialogue and cutscenes. These can be fast forwarded at least, but! Again, you won't be able to choose a direction and go off exploring. No no, you have to follow the path designated by the storyline. So if that's ok by you, and you're looking for a humorous hybrid of visual novel, sidescroller and action RPG, I suppose Heroine Anthem 2: Scalescars Oath is for you.
