tldr: I both loved the game and hated many parts of it. If you like deckbuilding roguelikes and you like the art, its worth buying in a sale. If you don't like the art, the deckbuilding part is lacking in true variety but still bearable. After finally finishing a run for each character, I was both very impressed and unimpressed by the game. I love the artstyle, the music, even the idea that these ancient wizards are going to their niece's party amidst the most horrible looking world ever. I hated that although each wizard has different spells, passives, and even the order you had to place your spells in hand, all the wizards pretty much needed the same items (specifically badges that would give extra draw, armor, and damage rings). Aside from the paladin and the flame knight, I pretty much only used armor or damage rings. I really wished there was more boss variety too, especially after beating the game at least once.
this game knows ball ignore the nerds saying this game is poorly balanced or gets repetitive or whatever i am so sick of number dorks treating niche games by independent designers and artists as though they need to be as infinitely replayable as slay the spire or balatro or whatever this game does not have a "generous price point" man you will spend more money tonight doordashing a burrito, you strawman, you the art style of this game is one that i sorely miss. it's about the little touches, like the foggy effect that comes in after a battle. this game rocks and i would gladly pay more for it
Very fun atmosphere and game, but a bit too easy. The runs feel too short and there's never any real sense of danger. Great atmosphere. What I would recommend: - Longer runs (infinite mode?) - More deckbuilding options - A bit more lore or information behind the monsters. The artwork is so cool it would be fun to know more about what inspired it.
insanely, insanely fun, for like an hour. and then the run just ends right when the build is starting to come together. there is a ton of content considering the game is made by only 2 people, and the game itself is made incredibly well regardless of how many people worked on it, but if i'm playing a roguelike i want to keep going and going and getting stronger and stronger. it's super disheartening to have my run just shut down. if you're gonna do that, at least make a little animation or cutscene to congratulate the player instead of cutting straight from the boss fight to just a PNG saying "You Win". it is a very cool PNG, anything with this art direction is guaranteed to be cool, but it's like i've just crashed into a street pole at 200mph. would love to see some updates in the future that add more stages or run variability besides class choice
Good stuff so far. Only a couple of suggestions: PLEASE add a cutscene at the end of the runs I was really dissapointed with the "You win" screen. You should be able to view your badges outside of combat 10 headed giant does NOT need to heal. That boss is waay too tough even without it. Maybe I just suck idk. I'll add more as I keep playing. Still really good.
