While the first game was Neptune’s stage, Re;Birth2 hands the spotlight over to the younger sisters—the CPU Candidates. It is a darker, more personal journey through Gamindustri that replaces the "goofy console war" vibes with a desperate rescue mission. The setup is surprisingly grim for a series known for pudding jokes: the main goddesses have been defeated and imprisoned in a place called the Graveyard, and the industry is being choked to death by a piracy syndicate. I spent my first few hours as Nepgear, Neptune’s younger sister, who is basically the emotional polar opposite of her sibling. She’s earnest, a bit of a tech nerd, and plagued by an extreme case of "middle child" syndrome as she tries to find the courage to lead. The combat keeps the free-roam turn-based system from the first Re;Birth, but expands the party size to four active members on the field. This changes the math significantly. I found myself obsessing over the "Lily System," pairing up sisters with their older siblings or friends to unlock passive buffs and massive "Coupling Attacks." There is a deep, satisfying layer of management here—finding the right back-line support to ensure Nepgear doesn't get flattened by a giant mechanical bird. What really sets Re;Birth2 apart is the branching narrative. This game is famous (or infamous) for its multiple endings, including the legendary "Conquest" path which is one of the most tonal shifts I’ve ever seen in a JRPG. One minute you’re talking about cute outfits, and the next you’re making choices that feel genuinely heavy. It gives the game a replayability factor that the others in the trilogy struggle to match. The world-building is top-notch if you enjoy "inside baseball" gaming industry jokes. Watching the personifications of handheld consoles struggle to find their place in a world dominated by "Arfoire" (the R4 flashcard) is a clever nod to the DS/PSP era struggles. 8/10. It’s the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Neptunia trilogy. It’s a bit more serious, the stakes feel higher, and while I miss Neptune's constant fourth-wall breaking, watching Nepgear step out of her sister's shadow is a rewarding character arc. Now, if I can just survive the next boss without accidentally triggering the depressing ending...

Finally able to continue playing through the series after a long time :D Now that I have a new device to play it, I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches that ruined my experience like when i played Rebirth 1 It's definitely an improvement over Rebirth 1, especially in the story and characters aspect (UNI my beloved <3). Nepgear is definitely a better MC than Neptune (I'm sorry) as she has more character defining moments compared to Neptune in Re1 and the other supporting character are a little more engaging. That is to say Re2 is technically the first installment of the timeline that are continuing through Re3 and V2, as Re1 is taking place on a different world altogether. So if you're wondering whether to play Re1 or Re2 first, I'll still recommend playing Re1, as the game introduce you to most of the characters and so you wouldn't feel lost when playing Re2. The gameplay is overall the same, same grindy shenanigans, Neptunia game industries-related and 4th walls breaking jokes still here. The game, still is, only worth the time if you really like or wanted to get into the Neptunia franchise, that being said, always be wary of discounts as Neptunia games are often get discounted. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation is a turn-based JRPG remake that doubles down on the series’ “cute characters + gaming jokes + surprisingly crunchy systems” formula. It’s brighter and more focused than it first appears, with a central story about the younger CPU Candidates stepping into the spotlight. If you’re in the mood for a lengthy, dialogue-heavy RPG that doesn’t take itself seriously, it fits that niche well. The battle system is built around positioning, planning attack strings, and managing skills in a way that’s approachable but not brainless. You set up combos that determine how characters hit, build resources, and control space on the battlefield, which makes even routine fights feel a bit more interactive than classic “select command, watch animation” turn-based games. As the party expands and abilities unlock, combat becomes more about building a team that works together than simply overleveling. Progression is where Re;Birth2 can hook you for hours. Between equipment upgrades, crafting, dungeon unlocks, and the series’ “plans” mechanic, there’s always another lever to pull to improve drops, open new areas, or power up your squad. It creates a steady rhythm of small goals—run a dungeon, get materials, craft gear, unlock a plan, repeat—that can be satisfying if you enjoy that loop. The story and dialogue lean heavily on the Neptunia brand of humor: fourth-wall breaks, industry parody, and character banter that ranges from genuinely funny to relentlessly chatty. The “Sisters” focus gives the narrative a slightly different flavor than the mainline CPU-centric entries, with more emphasis on growth, responsibility, and teamwork. That said, the pacing can be uneven, and it’s easy to feel like you’re watching long conversations punctuated by bursts of dungeon crawling. Visually, it’s colorful and expressive, with character designs doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of personality. Dungeons and environments are serviceable but repetitive, especially over a long playtime, and the general structure shows its roots in handheld-era remake design. The soundtrack supports the tone nicely, even if it’s not the kind you’ll remember years later. Like the rest of the franchise, Re;Birth2 includes fanservice and suggestive humor, sometimes as a joke and sometimes just as an aesthetic choice. Whether that’s harmless silliness or a constant distraction will depend on your tolerance for it. It’s not subtle, and it’s woven into the vibe, so it’s a meaningful factor in whether the game clicks for you. Overall, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation is best for players who want a system-heavy, grind-friendly JRPG wrapped in a playful, self-aware anime comedy. It’s not a showcase of brilliant dungeon design or tight storytelling, but it offers a comfortable progression loop and a cast that carries the experience through sheer personality. If you already like Neptunia, it’s an easy recommendation; if you’re new, it’s a decent entry point as long as you’re on board with the tone.

To be honest, if you've played one neptunia game you've pretty much played them all. They all reuse most of the same story, the same characters are in every game even if you already killed them 30 times. I still say buy it because regardless of the 15%~ change in story per game its still fun and new. Even the outfits are the same haha. The gameplay itself does differ per game however. Although usually not for the best. I cant stand the moments where youre solo and weak as hell when you dont have your party members and just have to play it like a stealth game. Other then that no complaints, games are all pretty well done FWIW. I wouldnt even really say theirs QOL improvements from neptunia 2 into hyperdimension, although i do like the graphics / mobs more in that one. So yeah if you like one neptunia game you'll pretty much enjoy them all. Its one of the rare game series i complete the entire game usually. IMPORTANT STEAM DECK INFO ~ Thats partly why i love the neptunia games bc i can just play them whenever and chill on steam deck. However, AVOID megadiMENSION ON DECK IT WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT AND EVEN THEN ITS A MAYBE, A VERY LONG SERIES OF PATCHES AND THIRD PARTY FILES THAT YOU HAVE TO DUMP INTO THE GAME FOLDER, AND EVEN THEN ITS 50/50, hence why i havent beat that yet and have 15 hours at the time of writing.
