I Am Sakuya: Touhou FPS Game is an ambitious and unconventional reinterpretation of the Touhou universe, attempting to translate a series known for dense 2D bullet-hell patterns into a first-person shooter format. Developed by the Sigyaad Team, the game places players in the role of Sakuya Izayoi as she explores a mysterious mansion that has appeared in Gensokyo, confronting familiar Touhou characters reimagined as FPS enemies and bosses. From the very start, the game makes its intentions clear: this is not a traditional Touhou experience, nor is it a conventional modern FPS, but a fan-driven hybrid that prioritizes novelty, homage, and experimentation over polish and mainstream appeal. The most striking aspect of the game is its conceptual boldness. Translating Touhou’s spell card chaos into first-person combat is no small task, and the developers approach it by blending classic Doom-style gunplay with waves of projectiles inspired by danmaku patterns. Combat emphasizes constant movement, spatial awareness, and crowd management, asking players to dodge incoming fire while returning damage in tight corridors and compact arenas. Sakuya’s signature ability to stop time adds a distinctive twist, allowing players to freeze projectiles and enemies momentarily, reposition themselves, and unleash damage before chaos resumes. When it works, this mechanic creates brief flashes of tactical elegance that feel uniquely tied to the character and source material. Presentation plays a major role in carrying the experience, particularly for fans of the Touhou series. The soundtrack relies heavily on energetic Touhou music arrangements that inject intensity into every encounter, often compensating for mechanical shortcomings by sheer force of atmosphere. Character sprites, visual effects, and spell-inspired attacks contribute to a sense of fan service and familiarity, making it clear that the developers have deep affection for the franchise. While the environments themselves are generally simple and functional, the audiovisual elements help establish a recognizable Touhou identity within the constraints of an FPS framework. Where the game struggles most is in execution and consistency. Level design is often straightforward and repetitive, frequently relying on narrow hallways or boxy rooms that funnel players into prolonged firefights. Enemy encounters tend to favor quantity over nuance, resulting in situations where survival depends more on exploiting cover and firing patterns than on mastering intricate projectile dodging. This approach can undermine the bullet-hell inspiration, as encounters rarely demand the precise pattern recognition and reflexive finesse that define the Touhou series. Over time, combat can begin to feel monotonous, especially as enemy behavior lacks the variety needed to sustain long-term engagement. Technical limitations are also apparent throughout the experience. Built on technology associated with Doom engine modding, the game inherits both the strengths and weaknesses of that foundation. Movement and shooting feel serviceable but dated, enemy AI is simplistic, and environmental interactions are minimal. Visual inconsistencies, rough transitions, and occasional jank reinforce the impression that this is closer to a polished mod than a fully realized standalone shooter. Weapon variety exists, but balance issues often reduce tactical decision-making, as certain tools are clearly more effective than others in most situations. Despite these flaws, the game’s reception is largely shaped by expectations. Players approaching it as a fan-made novelty or a short, experimental twist on Touhou are more likely to appreciate its charm, creativity, and enthusiasm. Those expecting a refined FPS or a faithful recreation of Touhou’s bullet-hell depth in three dimensions may find the experience lacking. The game’s relatively short length and modest scope further emphasize that it is designed as a bite-sized curiosity rather than a deep or endlessly replayable shooter. Ultimately, I Am Sakuya: Touhou FPS Game stands as a testament to fan creativity and genre curiosity. It succeeds in delivering a unique perspective on a beloved franchise and offers moments of genuine fun driven by music, character identity, and clever ideas like time manipulation. At the same time, its rough mechanics, repetitive design, and technical limitations prevent it from fully realizing its ambitious concept. For Touhou fans interested in seeing familiar characters through a radically different lens, it is an entertaining and memorable experiment. For players seeking a tightly tuned FPS experience, it remains an interesting novelty that hints at greater potential than it ultimately achieves. Rating: 8/10

REVIEW IS BROKEN INTO TWO HALVES FOR BASE GAME AND DLC! BASE GAME REVIEW: It's a fun little game. Incredibly unbalanced, but its Touhou so it's kind of expected. Do not treat this game like a regular DOOM game where you run in and shoot everything. Take it slow and methodical or you'll die in seconds. There were a few minor gripes I had with the level design, but overall its a fun time. You can typically beat the base game in about 90 minutes. Music was decent and is of remixes from EoSD (appropriately). Unfortunately, the music does not loop properly and has a few seconds of "dead space" that I wish was fixed (a simple mod could fix this even). Long story short, its a Touhou WAD of DOOM using GZDOOM as the foundation. Solid game albeit definitely a novelty at the price. 7.5/10 DLC REVIEW: I quite honestly enjoyed this way more than the base game. The gohei attacks make the vine boom sound effect when you hit enemies. That's all I need to say to convince you to get it tbh. The levels are a LOT longer than the base game, and the firefights are more hectic. Music is the same as the base game, but I'm not too fussed about that. DLC takes about 90 minutes to beat and a crap ton of luck and skill to beat Sakuya . I do wish there was a better gun variety, but the grenade launcher you get is too damn fun to use to hate on, so I'll let it slide. TLDR, the DLC is way better than the base game and the devs definitely matured their skills with the DLC. 8.5/10

It does capture the feel of the Touhou series, but it's also very amateurish and frequently feels like a joke game. Sakuya is the knife-wielding maid at Scarlet Devil Mansion, and most of this FPS game takes place in the mansion. She has a knife weapon, but you will mostly be using guns to dispatch your enemies in this short game. The enemies are cool because they all have their own mechanics, and the game does retain the "bullet hell" element the Touhou series is known for. The game starts out seeming like it will be extremely difficult, but as you play you will probably find that the simplest method of winning is to step out into a hall, kill the enemies and retreat to stop their flow of bullets from overwhelming you. There's only one area where this doesn't work and that's during an elevator climb during the first act of the game. Beyond that, the boss fights are cool because they have their own attack patterns and you need to bob and weave between the bullets to survive. You will fight characters classic to the Touhou series like Patchoulie and Remilia Scarlet. The levels are extremely simplistic and the game is probably just a Doom mood. The health is a gray and pink envelope or floppy disk that says "1 UP" on it. You are using handguns and shotguns to shoot at little fairy girls and this doesn't feel very faithful to the series at all. It would be better if she used magic weapons like energy blasts or magical cards as these are more faithful to the Touhou concept (It's a magic world). If you beat the game you unlock "hard" and then "lunatic" difficulty. Hard difficulty is significantly harder as the enemies are faster, but your guns also shoot way faster. Lunatic difficulty gives you dual machine guns that pretty much obliterate everything and actually make the game easier.

IF you can tolerate the first hour of decent fps gameplay and get to hard and lunatic what ill consider the real game its like times better where the normal difficulty is a slog in the later half having a semi automatic red tracer bullet shotgun is amazing and gives me more dopamine

❖ Such a great touhou version of Doom. ❖ Playing as Sakuya felt refreshing and awesome. ❖ Dealing with a masses amount of enemies was challenging at first, until you start knowing what to do in each encounter. ❖ The soundtracks in 16 bits kept me busy killing youkais (pretty great). ❖ I forgot to toggle my run speed until 2 hours in (which, i felt stupid to myself). ❖ The character's sprites are very cute and shows authenticity. ❖ The boss fights are great and hard (at the end). ❖ The DLC content is a good bonus post game. My only complain is: ❖ I do wished there was more weapons to be added. TLDR: 9 out of 10 (if you play FPS such as CS2 and so happen to like touhou, buy this).
