tl;dr took a while, but in the end it was a okay-ish, genre bending FMV experience Overview After the sudden death of a close friend, you return to your hometown to attend the funeral. What initially feels like a short and uncomfortable visit quickly spirals into something much stranger. As you dig deeper into the past, old relationships, buried secrets, and unsettling events begin to surface. I Saw Black Clouds is a FMV narrative adventure that blends psychological drama, mystery, and light horror elements, where your decisions influence both the story and its outcome. The Good Stuff The protagonist delivered a rather strong lead with believable acting. Beyond that, the game does a decent job at building atmosphere. There’s a constant sense of unease lingering in the background, even when nothing overtly threatening is happening. The pacing is slow, but deliberate, and once the story starts to open up, it has its moments of intrigue. Some narrative branches and revelations caught me off guard. The genre blend leads to different people playing the game only once may have a completely different experience to the point of playing a different genre all together. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3588331430 The Sorta-Kinda-Grinds-My-Gears-Stuff The game often feels like it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It hovers somewhere between psychological thriller, drama, and light horror - neither fish nor fowl. This can be intriguing, but it is also weird in the execution. Some scenes linger longer than necessary, while others feel rushed despite being important. Decision-making sometimes feels less meaningful than it should, especially when different choices funnel you back toward similar outcomes. It’s not bad, but it does limit replay motivation unless you’re going for completion. The Atrociously-Bad Stuff Nothing truly atrocious. There are weaker moments and occasional awkward dialogue, but nothing that completely derails the experience. Achievement-Hunter-Things Easy and fully guided. If you’re familiar with FMV completions, you know the drill: follow a guide, make a few alternative choices, and you’re done. Low effort, low frustration. Conclusion I Saw Black Clouds took a bit to grow on me. It starts slow, feels unsure of its identity, and occasionally stumbles over its own ambitions. But once everything comes together, it delivers a decent experience. It’s not a standout in the FMV genre, but it’s competent, occasionally compelling, and different enough to be memorable. If you’re into narrative-driven FMV games and don’t mind a slow burn with a slightly awkward genre mix, this is worth a look - preferably during a sale. Not amazing but also not terrible.

ok. to start off: you need to actually use your brain when playing this game if you want to understand the plot. but its actually really good and worth 100%ing second, my critiques (for anyone thinking to buy the game that dont want spoilers): there are some janky moments where the scenes dont line up audio/lighting wise, as well as sometimes you select an option and the character just .... doesnt say anything but the scene progresses on as if she did. either make her always say the dialogue option (which is what i would personally prefer out of an fmv game) or dont have them say any of them (spoilers ahead) <spoiler>w that aside: this is one of the best wales interactive games story wise. as someone with PTSD that has undergone EMDR (similar to the therapy used in game) and it truly represents how crazy the mind is. you start with a plot that is the false memories hiding the trauma, thinking thats reality. but really, youre in a therapist's office doing (what i presume to be) hypno therapy of some kind. youre trying to recover the real memories of what happened, to be able to truly grieve and move on. everything connects in an interesting and well thought out way. the scenes differ slightly (ie injuries, clothing, minor shifts in tone, etc) in a way that makes getting all the scenes more interesting and really fleshes out the world. not to mention the parallels between the real story and falsified version. in the serial killer route, you can hear the exact same screams as what kristina heard during the real story. this is one of many instances that really adds to the replayability of the game</spoiler> overall, an incredibly solid game, with legitimate research behind a lot of it. probs my second favourite out of all their games

The entire game seems to pivot on the idea that your internal narrative is more powerful than the events themselves. Like a psychological horror that adapts to your inner monologue instead of your dialogue tree. Definitely not horror for the sake of fear, it's more grief theory than anything else. Got all the achievements, and I still don't really understand what just happened, but don't let that discourage you! I Saw Black Clouds asks you to get lost on purpose, and if you're willing to do so without getting a perfectly packaged ending out of it, I'd say it's worth it. But I do agree with others who say that it's probably a good idea to get it when it's on sale. 4.5/5

mystery detective. Christina arrives in her hometown for a depressing reason - the death of a friend. the cause of death is even more confusing than it may seem. In the course of the game you will have to learn a lot about Christina and the situation around her. it will be interesting, but it will not be easy. I didn't like it: - Too many close-up shots, it's often inappropriate and longer than it should be. distracting. - The music doesn't always the suspense and breaks the balance. confusing. But. psychologists...nah. You'll find out.
