I'm counting to 6... is a compact yet deeply unsettling psychological horror experience developed and published by EMIKA_GAMES that exemplifies how atmosphere, restraint, and focused design can be more effective than scale or mechanical complexity. Built as a short, self-contained journey, the game wastes no time establishing an oppressive mood and steadily tightening its grip on the player, delivering a horror experience that is meant to be consumed in one sitting and remembered long after it ends. Rather than chasing spectacle or constant shock, it relies on discomfort, anticipation, and implication to create fear. The story follows Grisha, a man traveling to visit his grandfather when a sudden accident on a fog-choked road leaves him stranded and forced to continue on foot. This seemingly mundane setup quickly gives way to unease as he stumbles upon an abandoned village, its silence and decay hinting at a disturbing past. From the outset, the game avoids heavy exposition, choosing instead to let the environment speak for itself. Empty houses, scattered objects, and subtle visual cues invite the player to piece together what happened, creating a sense of dread rooted in curiosity rather than immediate threat. Gameplay is intentionally minimal, aligning closely with the walking-simulator subgenre. Movement and interaction are simple, allowing players to focus entirely on exploration and observation. There are no complex puzzles or combat systems to distract from the experience; progression comes from moving forward, paying attention, and enduring the increasingly hostile atmosphere. At key moments, the perspective shifts into a handheld-camera style view, a stylistic decision that heightens immersion while also introducing disorientation. This shift subtly alters how spaces are perceived, making familiar environments feel unstable and reinforcing the psychological nature of the horror. What truly elevates the experience is its masterful use of sound and silence. Audio design plays a central role in shaping tension, with ambient noises, distant sounds, and sudden changes in the soundscape often proving more frightening than any visual threat. Silence is used deliberately, creating moments where the absence of sound feels as ominous as a loud scare. Music is sparse but purposeful, emerging at critical points to underline emotional or narrative shifts rather than constantly guiding the player’s feelings. This careful balance ensures that fear builds gradually instead of relying on cheap or repetitive jump scares. Visually, the game benefits from its use of modern lighting and environmental effects, particularly fog and shadow. The abandoned village and its central house feel grounded and tangible, with realistic lighting that enhances the sense of isolation. While asset quality and animation are modest, the art direction compensates by leaning into realism and subtle distortion. As the story progresses, the environment begins to change in small but unsettling ways, suggesting that the space itself is unreliable. These visual shifts are never overstated, which makes them more effective when noticed. Pacing is one of the game’s strongest qualities. With a runtime of roughly an hour, the experience remains tightly focused, escalating tension without ever overstaying its welcome. Every segment serves a purpose, and the narrative moves forward at a steady pace that keeps players engaged. The brevity works in its favor, allowing the game to maintain intensity from beginning to end while avoiding the repetition that can plague longer atmospheric horror titles. By the time it concludes, the story feels complete, even if some elements are left intentionally ambiguous. Narratively, I’m counting to 6… leans into implication and interpretation. The plot is deliberately opaque, encouraging players to reflect on what they’ve seen rather than spelling everything out. Themes of isolation, loss, and unseen menace permeate the experience, and the lack of explicit answers enhances the lingering unease. This approach won’t appeal to players who prefer clear resolutions or detailed lore, but it suits the psychological horror tone perfectly, allowing the game to resonate on an emotional level rather than a logical one. The game’s limitations are closely tied to its design philosophy. Players looking for traditional gameplay depth, branching choices, or replayability may find the experience too simple or brief. Once completed, there is little mechanical incentive to return, as the journey is largely linear. However, this simplicity is also what allows the game to remain focused and effective, prioritizing mood and storytelling over systems. Overall, I’m counting to 6… stands as a strong example of modern indie psychological horror, demonstrating how careful pacing, sound design, and environmental storytelling can create a powerful experience without large budgets or complex mechanics. It is best suited for players who appreciate slow-burn horror, subtle narrative delivery, and short, intense experiences meant to be absorbed in a single session. While modest in scope, it succeeds in leaving a lasting impression, proving that sometimes the quietest horrors are the ones that linger the longest. Rating: 8/10

I beat it quickly, no glitches or bugs, it had some startling moments when you turn the camera and something appears after you've just looked there - which is an effect I love, from old skool Skyrim horror mods. The story was a bit hard to follow, but I got the gist... I think it works in favor of little horror games to have loosely translated material because it seems creepier. Lost in a little village, picking up notes that piece a story together, and being alerted by friendly mannequins when danger is afoot! Just over an hour to unlock all achievements and hear cool story! Play it if you like a lil horror break from one of the 120hr games you're slogging through!

I didn’t expect much going in, but I'm Counting to 6... totally surprised me. It’s simple on the surface, but something about the tension and timing makes it weirdly fun and addictive. The minimal style actually works in its favor — it keeps you focused and strangely invested. Whether you're playing alone or with friends, it's an oddly satisfying experience. Definitely worth checking out if you're into quirky, offbeat games. I genuinely enjoy it!

This is a very average walking sim. The scares aren't anything new. The sound effects and outside area were nicely done but once you've entered the house, it was just familiar assets and jumpscares that you've seen before. They could do so much more with these short horror games. Some were outstanding but too many just don't try anything new anymore. It's probably pretty scary when you dislike dolls.
