I never thought I’d find myself playing a game like this, but I ended up really enjoying the experience. This indie hidden object horror game may not have spine-chilling scares or jump scares, but it creates a unique atmosphere where the horror elements work to enhance the "hidden object" mechanic and the report mechanic, which challenges your memory as you look for and identify anomalies across different rooms. The tension from paranoia adds an extra layer of immersion, making the gameplay even more engaging. The best part, by far, was how the game pulled my friends in. We dove in blindly, memorizing the rooms, only to make mistakes and lose because we started getting paranoid and misleading each other. It was a fun and intense experience that became even more memorable thanks to the way we played together. We got completely hooked, and now I’m planning to buy the next installments so we can keep playing as a team. In conclusion, I highly recommend this game. If you enjoy testing your memory and finding anomalies in a horror setting, it’s definitely worth checking out. At only 3 EUR, it offers a unique and fun experience you won’t want to miss.

Nice spot-the-difference game. The 'anomaly cleared' screen startled me more than anything else. Fun but not scary

Idk why, but after playing Observation Duty 6, I had an itch to play all of them. So here's my take on the first. It's a really great proof of concept. OD1 shows you exactly what Notovia was capable of when they initially built this series. It's a test of ideas and concepts that were later worked on and perfected to give us what we have now with 7. The lack of color and the more simplified spaces make it both harder and easier to notice anomalies. The total amount can be pretty easily memorized if you play the maps enough times. The maps themselves being very fun and distinct from one another despite similarities in their anomalies. OD1 has a ton of rough spots, which is expected for a first time game. There is a lack of QoL here. Some anomalies have specific conditions to report that aren't super easily understandable. These include objects that appear like intruders, but are actually extra objects. Distortions that look like camera malfunctions. Things happening in other rooms of a map but are only visible from a different room. These along with anomalies that can kinda break the rules make this title frustrating at times. I was at 5:40 on the new house map when I was instant killed by the businessman intruder because he killed me before I could even pull up the report page. Him and a couple other intruders/anomalies require you to quickly move away from their cameras, but this isn't communicated in any way besides trial and error. That can make those losses frustrating, especially when you're just learning the map. Reports also take a long time to file, but it's not the biggest issue in the world. If you like the series or even just want to play a fun game of spot the difference, then this game is for you.

Despite only being two levels, this game is so fun and challenging to play! Plus the hidden secrets are fun to find and some of the anomalies are hilarious like the dude that shows up in the shower lol xd

If you've ever seen the recent proliferation of horror-themed "spot the anomaly" type games like The Exit 8 and Midnight Monitor, you can largely thank Notovia and his wonderful creation, I'm On Observation Duty. By mixing spot-the-difference gameplay with environments presented through security cameras, this series has made a real name for itself and become a classic in my book. Your job is to survive from 12 AM-6 PM by reporting anomalies, such as objects moving/disappearing, weird things happening to walls/floors and so forth. The horror comes into play from the fact that you will inevitably encounter at least one freaky intruder, often when you least expect it, and the audio is dead silent until certain anomalies trigger, which can definitely jumpscare you. The dead silence in general also adds an unsettling feeling that always sticks with me, no matter how many times I replay these games. Additionally, there's plenty of objects placed with no rhyme or reason, which will throw you off even more. You'll be questioning yourself a lot, and that's also a major strength of this series. This game, and all its sequels, will really test your memory, knowing what types of anomalies there are, and which objects can change. It's very difficult to beat either level in this game on your first try with out looking up the anomalies. Anomalies are randomized each run and don't appear at set times. The difficulty and randomization encourage replaying the game and going in with what you know can change, and discovering more subtle anomalies you've missed before. If you don't like trial-by-error, you might get a bit frustrated with that, since full runs take about 20 minutes and it's entirely possible to lose even in the last in-game hour. But you're not penalized for submitting false reports other than costing you time. You can only have up to 3 anomalies active; 4 and you lose, and you only get a single warning per run when you're up to 3 active. That leads to my only real complaint about this game and the later entries; generally there's only one object per each type of anomaly (for example, object movement in a bedroom will only ever given to one object for that room, instead of multiple). It does make memorization easier, but at the cost of making future runs more predictable more quickly. Despite that though, this is a really enjoyable game and a great foundation for the rest to follow. It's a particularly fun game to stream to audience or a group of friends, too! For spooky month and celebration of the release of the 7th game, I will be reviewing the rest of the series.
