Neverending Nightmares may be forgotten horror game that almost nobody knows it, but... I'm very glad that I bought this game, which I have a memory of where I played before. This drawing style is generally natural and stylish, the proof that artstyle of games doesn't matter at all, this game deserves great positive reviews, which isn't just a legend, but is great and real history as much. Neverending Nightmares under my heart. ❤️

3.5/5 Used to be fun to watch youtubers acting out when playing this game because it is obviously not scary. It is mostly a walking simulator and that's it. Only buy when discounted if you want a blast from the past.

"oh cool my arteries weren't connected to anything waitmyarteriesweren'tconnectedtoanyt-" Thomas, probably Neverending Nightmares is another one of those games I've actually played before, but I wanted to refresh my memory a little before doing this. Over a decade old, NN is a pretty nebulous title, and explores sensitive subject matter. I think when I look at this story, it strikes me with the old dichotomy between horror and comedy: Many differences, but interestingly, many similarities. One of the biggest tends to be repetition. Something that's repeated a lot can lose laughs, but it can also generate them. Same for scary things, you do something scary enough, you become desensitised to it, but there are certain spooks that when done repeatedly in just the right way, or having atmosphere repeated numerous times - it adds up to something profoundly unsettling. You play as Thomas, a young man who appears to die in his dreams in many gruesome ways, or experience something traumatic, and then wake up, only to find that he's continuing the nightmare. The mental illness aspect of this specific story tends to make me think that the developer poured a lot of his personal struggles into this (as he himself mentions), and even the art style and the particular levels of gore with certain significant details (mostly blood) being the only things that have colour seem to carry that cognisance of a world that is perpetually dim and dark and the only thing that makes sense is that you can bleed. There are a few enemies, and the gameplay is basically a third-person walking simulator, but I will say that certain things do get a little repetitive in a more monotonous way at times, and the game presents itself in a manner that feels like it's rife with meaning - when even that feels a little uncertain at times. There are endless corridors, and sometimes that feels a little frustrating - not so much in a "this is how it feels" kind of way resonating with the mental health vibes - but more in a "The level design needs work" vibe, especially because it's a walking sim, and where you actually go matters because it will lead you to a different ending. I'll say that I definitely recommend Neverending Nightmares, if only because it's so strikingly unique in its approach and feels so clear in its independent desire to tell a narrative across three different "endings" (though I will admit it's very easy to get lost and not really know what you're doing) that I give the relative kudos to the dev for creating something... illuminating, so to speak. 6.5/10

The game for me, is okay! * Game play - walking with minimal interaction. There are things you can interact with, but they don't really add to the story. For example, there are dolls you can interact with. They have different faces. Does this add to the story? No. Do you get any feedback for interacting with them? No. There are rooms you can investigate, but I found myself skipping the majority of them, because they didn't lead or add to anything. I feel like a portion of people playing this would get bored after a while and may not try getting the other endings. * Story - confusing (at least, to me) No spoilers, but for half of the game, you're lead to believe one thing, but then it suddenly suggests it's a different thing later. With either element, it's not clear on what even happened. * Horror - good The music was nice and led to a tense atmosphere There are some jumpscares and, when it happened, did startle me. It didn't feel like there were too many, which is nice - just felt like the right amount. * Art - delightful! The art adds to the story quite well, I think. The changing and degrading environment, as you explore, adds to the feel of unease. My only complaint is that some things that happen have TOO many lines and can make it quite hard for my own eyes to translate what I'm looking at. Overall, like what others mentioned, this is basically a walking simulator, and it's okay, but definitely has potential. I do wish that if you were going to add interactions into the game, it should have some dialogue or text with it, or even a (stronger?) hint as to what this is for. I don't normally write reviews, so I hope this isn't too all over the place. I just hope this helps for anyone looking to play the game in the future!
