Fantastic psychological horror game and I can't believe I had never heard of it until a few days ago. I enjoyed the variety of equipment you unlock as you progress through the story, although some items felt a bit useless after awhile. The cannon fodder enemies scattered around don't pose much of a threat, but I like their design, albeit a little generic. The bosses are the clear highlight of this experience and each one is crafted masterfully with a fully unique design, backstory, and voice actor. One of them is even voiced by the esteemed Joshua Tomar! Also, this game is genuinely scary asf sometimes to the point where I may or may have not shrieked an above average amount of times... The soundtrack deserves it's own paragraph and it's amazing. They got The Living Tombstone as the composer and you can tell they went above and beyond for this. Each boss has their own song that can be played after you defeat them and it's such a treat. Definitely feels like we have been spoiled. Achievements are not too difficult with none of them being missable as you can revisit levels. Just use your mirror shard to spot all the collectibles as you go and you'll be fine. Overall, just use a helpful Steam guide if you get confused by anything. This is a certified underrated gem that any horror game fan should play. Fingers crossed there'll be a sequel one day!
I have enjoyed the game, though I have some mixed feelings. Fist things first: it fails as a horror game. The enemies don't feel threatening, I even found them goofy most of the time. I liked the atmosphere, but it felt more melancholic than scary. The puzzles quality varies: some feel like chores, others are fun. Either way, very few of them play into the horror aspect of the game. That said, I think the highlight of the game are the characters. Piecing together their stories and peering into their minds was by far the most engaging aspect of the game to me . The story is great, as well as the message it conveys, but it directly clashes with its horror side. A horror game should feel hostile to the player, but, because of the constant positive messaging, In Sound Mind instead feels "well meaning". The game presents you some psychological horror and then gives you more than enough psychological comfort to deal with it. Which absolutely makes sense thematically, but, again, to the detriment of the horror. In short, if you are looking for a horror experience, this game isn't it. But if you're in it for the story, then you won't be disappointed!
LOVE IT! <3 this game is my favorite game of all time ive played it so much. (i had to play offline alot so i don't have accurate hours because i had a horrible internet situation where i used to live so i could not put all my data into the steam cloud and charts but i do have a dozens of hours) This game covers different mental health disorders in such a unique and tasteful way. so nice to see light shed on these issues in a way like this. This game has helped me through so much, my friend's passing after taking his life, my grandma's passing and my mental health diagnosis. (I am bipolar and schizophrenic. One of my hallucinations the shadow people look alot like the inkblots that chase you lol. makes me think of the game every time i see them which brings me alot of comfort because i am reminded of how i can conquer my mental issues. This game helped me come to terms with my diagnosis and made me feel like others deal with mental health struggles and that just because mine was a little different or a little more rare, it still made me feel so seen. it helped me learn i can conquer anything i put my mind to.) I wont spoil it but i love the ending honestly life changing I've never had the end of a game stay in my mind for years and years after playing it. this is the best game i have ever played PERIOD. I always recommend it to everyone i know. beautiful story, message, art, music and sound track. i mean this game is just gorgeous as a whole. I love all the details, you collecting rx boxes to gain experience and level up different aspects of you (right on theme), i love all the bad guys are inkblots (right on theme again). everything is in theme with mental health down to the smallest of details. I love agent rainbows design and character model. I love the way your office becomes the menu! so unique. I love being able to wander around the building and having that be its own unique level up exploration for rx bottles and boxes. I love the sound track it is so immersive and really makes you feel there. I love the cat too!!!!!!!!! Really great game let down by modern game design tropes. You know the memes where a video game character won't shut up, telling you exactly what to do immediately and without prompting? That's who you play as. You click on a screw and your character says something like "I could unscrew this". Every time. However, it's a wonderfully told story. Even if the subject is one I've heard before, it's told in a unique way. The gameplay is interesting and I enjoyed looking for collectibles. The soundtrack is really cool. There's some spookiness to enjoy though I feel like it gets less spooky as you progress the levels. If the protagonist spoke less and didn't treat the player like an idiot it would be a near perfect game.
