Evil School is an FMV game where a school student must find the truth behind the murder of her sister, and take revenge on the people who are responsible. Gameplay mostly involves watching video scenes and occasionally making a choice to influence the story, or successfully passing a QTE to avoid danger. Its not really a branching narrative because it seems that there is only one correct path to achieve a good ending, with all incorrect choices leading to a game over either immediately, or a couple of scenes later. You’ll then need to go back and make a different choice to progress. Sometimes the choice and consequence don’t seem to have any correlation. A couple of choices that resulted in game over left me feeling like “how was I supposed to know that would happen?”. At least its easy to understand which scene you need to go back to so you don’t waste much time. Story is quite well written. What starts out as a simple, but brutal, example of school bullying soon turns into a much larger cover up involving several interesting characters. Most of the acting is good and I played with the Chinese voices and English subtitles. Production values are also really good, with scenes taking place across several locations, sometimes with dozens of extras, which gives the story a sense of scale that a lot of the other FMV games I’ve played don’t have. It only took me 4 hours to complete the story but the purchase price is already cheap so its definitely worth checking out if you enjoy interesting stories. The only complaint I have is that towards the end there are a couple of news broadcasts where the subtitles are basically impossible to read while the video is playing. See below example. A top-tier game in this genre. In this FMV, you take the role of a young girl who lost her sister to school bullying eight years prior to the game events. She tracked the responsible person behind the disappearance of her sister and decided to take their life. The game has some gore and sensitive scenes. I'm not going to spoil anything, but this game is long and consists of seven chapters, which you can access anytime, along with the timeline and scenes for each chapter. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3783999060 The cast did an outstanding job portraying the characters; it felt like watching a great movie. The soundtracks were fitting and nice, and of course, the choices will either make you proceed into the story, or you'll end up having one of the multiple bad endings. The developer stated there are 42 endings, but it felt like more than that. You have the choice of who to trust and who to ignore; the major choices will change the outcome of the endings, but of course you can always go back to that scene and change your choice. Evil School, or a story about how to make a movie-game for $5? Overall, it’s a decent interactive movie. The story shows us how power, money, and status can corrupt a person to the point of committing murder. In short, we play as a girl whose sister died eight years ago. Now we have to literally avenge our sister and uncover the truth... Overall, it’s a decent thriller-detective game with a good story. As for the gameplay, the biggest downsides are the complete lack of gamepad support and the very limited dialogue choices. In fact, we can’t even control the character. We basically just watch a movie where, at certain moments, dialogue options or important actions appear. Overall, I recommend it just to check it out. 7/10. Из минусов в геймплее: 1) Это полное отсутствие геймпада и какой-то определённый выбор между диалогами. По факту, мы даже не можем управлять персонажем, а тупо просто смотрим кино, где в каких-то моментах появляются диалоги между персонажами или какими-то важными действиями. 2) Русская озвучка. Её сгенерировал ChatGPT и это ужасно. (Данный комментарий про озвучку, является эксклюзивом для русскоязычной аудитории) В целом, советую для ознакомления. 7/10
🌟 I’ve been waiting ages for the full version of this game to drop… and here it is. You’re playing it, but it feels like you’re watching a film at the same time. Proper tense the whole way through cos everything hinges on your choices - did you progress, or did you miss something? Super atmospheric, brilliant story, grips you so hard I finished the whole thing in under a day. Some bits properly scare you, others make you sit there thinking “right, what do I do so they don’t suspect me?” Then you’re just watching it unfold like a movie, wondering what’s coming next, what’s the secret, what actually happened… the lot. Highly recommend buying it and playing it yourself - grab some popcorn and just enjoy the ride. 🌟🌟9.5/10🌟🌟
Disclaimer: I was bullied, so I may be a bit biased. But not really, you only need to be human to appreciate this masterpiece. The writing, directing, acting, production, everything, are all top tier, and the game is easily FMVOTY so far for me. And I love how near the end, they guided us towards being human, and forgiveness. Very much recommended, mandatory for FMV fans.
