I've loved the Kingdom series from day one. The game design and pixel art are fantastic. The gameplay mechanics are relatively simple, but the game itself becomes quite challenging as you progress. I find it really exciting to strike the right balance between exploration, castle building, defense, and — later in the game — offense as well. Prepare for the dark nights and don't let the greed take your monarch down.
Rating - 5 stars out of 5 This game is the reason I own the others in this series, I found this to be an incredibly nice cozy game that you can sit back and enjoy while also still being actively strategic. The greed are cute little monsters that want to steal your crown and I couldn't possibly be mad at them for that! I would play this game any day! O problema é que essa fórmula se esgota rápido, e o jogo não faz muito esforço para te dar motivos para continuar depois que você já entendeu o loop. É uma experiência honesta para quem busca algo curto e relaxante, mas está longe de ser indispensável. Kingdom: Classic is a game that bets everything on a single idea and executes it competently, but without much ambition to go beyond it. The concept of recruiting vagrants, turning them into knights and archers, and using your coins to expand an increasingly fortified kingdom is simple and it works in practice. The problem is that this formula runs out of steam quickly, and the game doesn't do much to give you reasons to keep going once you've already understood the loop. It's an honest experience for those looking for something short and relaxing, but it's far from essential. Jogabilidade | Gameplay ⭐⭐ A jogabilidade é extremamente limitada, e isso é proposital, mas ainda assim pesa contra o jogo. Você só pode andar para os lados, jogar moedas para contratar e melhorar seus súditos, e montar no cavalo para se mover mais rápido. The gameplay is extremely limited, and that's intentional, but it still counts against the game. You can only walk left and right, throw coins to hire and upgrade your subjects, and mount your horse to move faster. There's no direct combat controlled by you, which removes a good chunk of the tension a game about defending a kingdom should have. Deciding where to position archers, when to build walls, and when to risk a nighttime expedition does require some planning at first, but after a few hours you already know the optimal routine, and from there it's just repetition. The problem isn't the length of a single playthrough, it's the lack of reason to start another one. Without any real progression between runs, each new attempt is basically the same thing with a slightly different generated map. It works well as a single-session game, but it doesn't hold your attention the way a roguelike should. Enredo | Story ⭐ Não existe enredo. The portals leading to new lands are the only concession to any narrative progression, and even then they're nothing more than a mechanical trigger to restart the cycle somewhere else. Anyone expecting any world-building or character development will come away frustrated. Visual ⭐⭐⭐⭐ O visual é, sem dúvida, o ponto mais forte do jogo. The visuals are, without a doubt, the game's strongest point. The minimalist pixel art, with a reduced palette and well-defined silhouettes, creates an aesthetic that has aged well and still feels charming today. The transition between day and night is well handled, and watching your kingdom grow from a simple camp into a fortress full of walls and towers gives genuine visual satisfaction, even with all the mechanical simplicity around it. Áudio | Audio ⭐⭐ A trilha sonora é discreta demais para deixar qualquer impressão duradoura. Bought this is in 2015 but only really finished it today in 2026. I have fond memories of this game and I absolutely adore the music by Amos Roddy. Finally decided it was time to defeat the final portal (always destroyed 3 before being crushed) and managed it this time around quite easily. A cute, short and characterful game that is a throw back to a simpler time.
