Origins is the third game in the series and completes the trilogy alongside the original and Frontiers. Not much really changes compared to the first two: same concept, same goals, just different towers and levels. Speaking of the levels: they are very cute, and the forest and fairy-tale setting create a great atmosphere. Hero levelling carries over from Frontiers and it's well done. The towers are a bit disappointing, but that's a known fact by now I guess. The two new additions are the Thunderbolt mechanic and the Impossible difficulty. Whereas the first two games were 8.5/10 for me, I feel this one continues the good progression, but since the towers are slightly worse, my final rating is 8/10 (still solid).
I write this review after 100%ing the game. Out of all the KR games, this one has my favourite scenery and style. I actually haven't played this one as a kid so no nostalgia here, this was a new experience to me. I love the fantasy world and themes. On difficulty scale, this game falls somewhere in between KR1 and KR2. It was definitely easier than KR2, but required more thinking and retries than KR1. I think I like this sort of balance. I do have to say that for some reason they added new difficulty mode: Impossible, which from my experience, after you once beat Veteran is barely any harder. I used all the same strategies from Veteran and had to retry only one level. Kind of pointless to have to do almost the entire campaign exactly the same way again just for an achievement, because Impossible mode is locked until you beat the game once. When it comes to balance, there's only really one tower that stands out with how powerful it is, but it's not as powerful as the OP towers from KR1 and KR2, so I feel like they did a better job on this one. Now achievements are a whole different talk. This game has to be the second worst to 100%. Some of the achievements required heavy grinding, which I really did not appreciate. After a while trying to get especially 2 of them got extremely boring, limited to just replaying one level and doing the exact same thing over and over again. Final rating: 7.5/10
**Recommended 👍** Kingdom Rush Origins is honestly one of the best tower defense games I’ve played. The gameplay is simple to understand but gets pretty challenging later on, and there’s a lot of strategy involved with tower upgrades, hero abilities, and figuring out the best way to handle each wave. The art style is great, the animations are fun, and the whole game has a lot of charm. There’s also a good amount of content, so you can easily sink a bunch of hours into it. My only complaint is that some levels can feel a little repetitive, but overall that’s a pretty minor issue. If you like tower defense games, definitely give this one a try. **9/10 — Would recommend.**

Title: Kingdom Rush Origins Summary: Fantasy tower defense game Personal notes: Kingdom Rush Origins is the third installement in the series despite being a prequel to the first game. Once again you are tasked with defending against waves of enemies across various locations through strategically placing and upgrading towers. The core gameplay remains the same, you still use the same four tower styles. Those being barracks, archers, magic, and artillery. The gameplay is still the highlight and is easily the strongest part of the game. Managing new and cool towers/heroes all with unique traits while reacting to new enemy types on new levels keeps the classic formula exciting. Talking about levels, I feel like the level design overall has improved once again making it feel more complex but rewarding. Some levels, especially the challenge levels were quite difficult but still felt pretty fair. Visually this game improves upon the previous entries which already look really solid. The environments look great and detailed while retaining the classic kingdom rush look and the animations feel more smooth than ever. The audio is also strong. The soundtrack fits the fantasy setting perfectly despite becoming a tad repetitive after countless hours. In addition, the sound effects feel proper and satisfying and helps give characters personality. All of these updates and changes make the overall presentation feel well done. The only downside I can think of in this game is how similiar it is to the last two. The new towers, heroes and levels do help keep things feeling new but the core gameplay is essentially identical across the series so if you are looking for something different this isn't it. Achievement wise this game is pretty straightforward but fairly time consuming just like the other Kingdom Rush games lol. I listed some of the more difficult achievements below such as throwing 1000 nuts! But, if you know what you are going for and have a proper strategy/tower selection you should be able to complete it. All things considered I once again had a great time. Kingdom Rush Origins is another very solid entry in this tower defense series and the genre in general. While it doesn't reinvent much, the fun classic gameplay, great level/sound/world design mixed with a ton of new enemies and towers make it an easy recommendation for any Kingdom Rush or Tower Defense fan alike.
