Fun fun fun! As should be very apparent, this is hugely inspired by Kingdom Rush - or perhaps "blatant KR clone" is more accurate. Developed in Chinese, the English translations of the text are often incomplete, sometimes hilarious, and always baffling. If there's a coherent story there, it eludes me. The developer appears to have abandoned plans to add additional campaigns (the spaces for which are clear on the world map), which is disapointing - but it happens. So much for the negatives. If you love KR, then this is an essential purchase. The game is simple, with a limited range of towers, but that is something I appreciated - just get on and play the game instead of overly stressing about which towers to select. I recently replayed all the KR games, and found that I enjoyed the earlier installments the most. The later ones are more challenging, but, frankly, the increasing use of big bosses that destroy your towers was something I found unbelievably annoying. Fortunately, Oriental Dynasty does not do this. The big bosses are still quite a challenge, but manageably so. I think there are various secret tricks in many of the levels to help you, but the only guides are in Chinese so you'll have to discover them yourself. And I still can't work out how I managed to win the final battle against Anubis in "Egypt - Inside the pyramid" without triggering the coffin chaos that had repeatedly overwhelmed me. If you love KR, and especially the earlier and simpler ones, you'll love Oriental Dynasty. I do.

Okay. not terrible if you catch it when it happens to be on sale and be prepared to lower your standards a bit. VERY blatant rip-off of Kingdom Rush; not just the style and gameplay mechanics, but some of the enemy sprites and sounds appear to be literally copy & pasted over. When first launched it defaults to Chinese language, and required randomly clicking around through some of the all-Chinese buttons and menus to find an option to switch to English. Once it is in English, you'll find that most of it is very poorly translated with typos and missing letters, and text exceeding their bounding boxes because it's longer than the original Chinese. Gameplay is similar to Kingdom Rush as well, but without much concern about balancing; some units seem very overpowered compared to the rest and relatively weak towers are easily overwhelmed. Balancing seems to get a bit better in later levels. Bit of a rough start, but it did grow on me after a while. The comic panels in between levels often make zero sense, with tons of missing letters, missing words, and non-existent grammar.

This is unironically a kingdom rush spinoff, it's much much higher quality then you are expecting and offers a fun new experience. Although the english translation is just horrific.
