Better than the previous game, but still not as good as the first 3. Again, tower spots are scarce, routes are unusual, routes change, so you have limited options. That was not what made the first 3 good - there you could put towers almost anywhere, and the puzzle was balancing them, choosing your choke point, etc. In many of these current levels there are entire routes with no option for proper choke points - 4 towers within range. Please, go back to the style of the first 3 games. *Just tried the two harder modes for each map, ironman and thingy. On the old games these were hard. On this game, they're even easier than standard mode, a complete design fail.

Kingdom Rush is where I fell in love with Tower Defense Games... Kingdom Rush 5 is a wonderful continuation of the game/franchise/story, lovely art work as always, great maps and hidden secrets on the levels. Base game is a little shorter than the original but with the 3 DLC's added on it reaches about the same amount of levels. Achievements all work are add a nice variation to some levels too. All 3 DLCS are great additions with new tower variations and champions added along with achievements too (Yes its all about the achievements) The game does feel a little easier that previous ones, but maybe I'm just a lot older, wiser, more handsome and even more incredible at tower defense games than I was 20 years ago. Developers/publishers have been incredible when speaking to them and allowed us to promote the game and give away extra copies of the base game and DLC's live on twitch streams for the community. (I may have an extra copy or too still if anyone wants to swing by and claim one)

Surprisingly good after the mediocrity of Vengeance and abomination of Legends. Very easy though, needing self-set restrictions to keep it challenging. (Pity we can't go straight to impossible, this is the first KR game where i've cruised through Veteran.) Edit: I originally snarked about how much these games have increased in price while decreaing in quality over time, but as i've gone through the post-campaign levels i've really appreciated how complicated and dynamic the design has become - the difficulty shoots way up, forcing more interesting choices with towers and requiring more thought and experimentation. Enough to be excited about the upcoming (as of this review) Dragon Wars DLC.

Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD – A Love Letter to Hardcore Fans I’ve played every single Kingdom Rush game since the beginning, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve spent thousands of hours with this franchise. I’m genuinely addicted. While the first two games still hold a special place for me, I’ve enjoyed all entries — and Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD proves that the series is not only alive, but evolving in the right direction. What immediately stands out is the difficulty spike. This is not a casual tower defense experience anymore. Enemy waves are more aggressive, compositions are smarter, and mistakes are punished hard. Veteran and Iron modes feel genuinely challenging, even for long-time players. And honestly? I loved that. Kingdom Rush needed this. The new hero system is where Alliance really shines. The heroes feel more versatile, impactful, and strategically relevant than ever before. Some of the new heroes are absolute game-changers, and mastering their synergies is key to beating the hardest stages. Without them, finishing the game at higher difficulties would’ve been brutal — with them, it feels demanding but fair. Visually, the game keeps Ironhide’s signature style while refining animations, effects, and battlefield clarity. Everything feels polished, responsive, and satisfying. The humor, references, and charm are still there — it’s unmistakably Kingdom Rush. Do I still prefer the simplicity and nostalgia of the first two games? Yes. But Kingdom Rush 5 doesn’t try to copy them — it builds on the franchise, respects experienced players, and raises the bar mechanically. In short: If you’re a casual player, Alliance might surprise you with how tough it is. If you’re a hardcore fan like me, this game will challenge you, frustrate you, and reward you — exactly what a great Kingdom Rush game should do. Verdict: A harder, deeper, and incredibly satisfying entry that proves the franchise still has a lot to offer. Long live Kingdom Rush.
