Not a very complicated game, so if you want some challange, the review is not for you - the game more about the story. And speaking of it I only give it thumbs up because of being indie - I can understand constraints of remaking something or being unable to hire more people/consultants for writing - should've it been the big(er) publisher I'd be less lenient. The story is nice, though no "a-ha!" moments. The voice acting is the strongest feature of the game - praise to actors. Don't get me wrong - the story is good! Not mindblowing but good. If you had a hard week and want a nice rest - then sencerelly recomend. If not - keep it in the library for those times you want slower evenings/days in your playing

I really loved this one. More and more, I'm finding more enjoyment from an 'on-rails' game with elements of interactivity than I am with open world epics, that I rarely, if ever, get to the end of. This gave me a really interesting (and surprising) story that I felt I was still able to influence. The art style was great and the music worthy of note. Kept me engaged throughout to its conclusion. If you like a good story, you could do a lot worse!

Last Stop, developed by Variable State and published by Annapurna Interactive, is a narrative-focused adventure that leans heavily into character-driven storytelling and cinematic presentation. Set in a stylized version of modern London, the game follows three separate protagonists—John, Meena, and Donna—whose lives initially unfold in isolation but gradually begin to intersect through increasingly strange and supernatural events. Rather than emphasizing traditional gameplay systems, the experience is built around dialogue, pacing, and the gradual development of its characters, making it feel closer to an interactive drama than a conventional game. The structure is divided into episodic chapters that rotate between the three storylines, giving each character space to develop while maintaining a sense of variety. John’s story centers on a bizarre body-swapping situation that blends humor with emotional reflection, Meena’s arc explores themes of control, ambition, and secrecy in a more grounded and tense narrative, and Donna’s storyline leans into youthful curiosity and supernatural mystery. This shifting perspective keeps the experience fresh, but it can also interrupt the flow, as players are often pulled away from one storyline just as it begins to build momentum. Gameplay is intentionally minimal, functioning primarily as a framework to support the narrative. Players move through environments, engage in conversations, and make dialogue choices that shape the tone of interactions. While these choices create a sense of involvement, their long-term impact is relatively limited, often influencing immediate responses rather than significantly altering the overall direction of the story. As a result, the experience feels more guided than interactive, with the player acting as a participant in a largely predetermined narrative rather than a true decision-maker. Where Last Stop excels is in its writing and character work. The dialogue captures a grounded, everyday tone, with a distinctly British sensibility that adds authenticity to the setting. The characters themselves are complex and sometimes flawed, which makes their interactions feel believable even when the story ventures into more fantastical territory. The game takes its time exploring their personal struggles, allowing the supernatural elements to emerge gradually rather than overwhelming the narrative from the start. This balance between the ordinary and the extraordinary is one of the game’s strongest qualities. Visually, the game adopts a stylized, almost animated aesthetic that complements its cinematic approach. Character models are expressive, and the use of camera angles and scene composition gives many moments the feel of a television drama. Combined with strong voice acting and a well-crafted musical score, the presentation creates a cohesive atmosphere that draws players into the world. The production values are consistent throughout, reinforcing the game’s focus on storytelling and immersion. However, this emphasis on narrative comes with trade-offs. The limited interactivity can make the experience feel passive at times, particularly for players who prefer gameplay-driven engagement. Much of the time is spent watching scenes unfold, with only occasional input required, which may not satisfy those looking for more active involvement. Additionally, while the story builds intrigue effectively, its conclusion feels somewhat rushed, bringing together its threads in a way that does not fully capitalize on the depth of its setup. Pacing is another area where the game may divide players. The slow, deliberate progression allows for meaningful character development, but it can also lead to stretches where little happens in terms of action or plot advancement. For those who appreciate character-focused storytelling, this approach works well, creating a more intimate and reflective experience. For others, it may feel lacking in momentum, particularly when compared to more dynamic narrative games. Ultimately, Last Stop is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It prioritizes story, atmosphere, and character over mechanics, delivering an experience that is more about observation and emotional engagement than challenge or skill. While it does not offer significant player agency or mechanical depth, it succeeds in creating a cohesive and memorable narrative journey. In the end, Last Stop stands as a strong example of interactive storytelling done with care and intention. It may not appeal to everyone, particularly those seeking more traditional gameplay elements, but for players willing to embrace its cinematic style, it offers a thoughtful and engaging experience that lingers beyond its final moments.
