Huge departure from the first two games, but makes up for it in its overall immersion, narrative, and voice acting. Fun fact: Two of the main writers for this game, Richard Gaubert and Matthew Sophos, went on to head up similar roles for the God of War reboots.

Lost Planet 3 serves as a narrative prequel to the original games, shifting focus from large-scale action to a more character-driven story. The plot follows Jim Peyton, a contract worker on the frozen planet E.D.N. III, as he balances corporate obligations with personal survival. The tone is grounded, emphasizing isolation, resource scarcity, and distrust of the company in control. Gameplay blends third-person shooting with utility missions. Combat against Akrid creatures uses weak-point targeting and weapon variety, but engagements are slower and more deliberate than earlier entries. Human firefights appear later and add variety, though enemy AI is modest. The game favors positioning and patience rather than constant aggression. A central highlight is the rig, a large utility mech used for traversal and scripted encounters. It is not a heavy weapons platform; instead it relies on industrial tools like drills and cutters. Fighting in the rig is slower and more methodical, creating contrast with on-foot combat. Repairs and upgrades provide meaningful utility improvements. Exploration focuses on completing work contracts to earn payment for gear upgrades. Side objectives are simple, but they flesh out the environment and company culture. The hub area evolves slowly as the story advances, offering new interactions and dialogue. This structure adds routine that reinforces the game’s survival-labor theme. Presentation leans on cold, harsh visual design. Snowstorms limit visibility, and lighting sells environmental threat. Interiors are claustrophobic, emphasizing corporate neglect. The soundtrack is restrained but effective, while audio logs and video messages provide personal backstory that supports emotional beats. Performance varies. On modest hardware, frame drops can appear during blizzard effects or heavy combat. Texture pop-in is occasional, and loading transitions can feel long. Control responsiveness is consistent, and aiming feels stable once sensitivity is tuned. Minor bugs are reported but rarely block progress. Overall, Lost Planet 3 delivers a slower, more narrative-focused entry that emphasizes atmosphere over spectacle. It lacks the frantic combat identity of earlier installments, but its grounded storytelling, strong environmental tone, and rig mechanics offer a distinct experience for players willing to accept a more methodical pace.

By far a heavily under rated game. Enjoyed the Music, Story line and game play. It's definitely an enjoyment on the Deck.

not bad but I liked the first part more, the characters and plot are much more interesting there than sitting here at the base

Well, let's get into the controversial games now shall we? Did Lost Planet 3 kill off the franchise before it had a chance to really get going? Well, much like the actual game its a mixed bag. So lets, get into the pros and cons Pros- - Graphics- The weather effects, lighting, outdoor stage design etc. is even now 12 years later still awesome to see and look at. Character models while not terrible are very much running on Unreal 3 and you can see it, but they are by no means terrible. -Sound- The voice acting is fairly well done, appropriate kind of music, gun sound effects are mostly punchy. -Gameplay- 1v1 Monster vs Mech or Mech vs Mech fights, what is not to love about it. Dodge, rolls shoot, melee, are all fine and functional. -Story - There is actually a pretty good solid story in here in the serious B movie Sci-Fi kinda way. Cons - - Mission structure- If you hate fetch quests, kill x number of monsters, go here get this thing, and comeback. You will detest this game -Multiplayer- So two parts to this 1. it's dead (unsurprising given the games age) 2. multiplayer feels very tacked on, The thing that made the say two so interesting was the Co-op. and in the first one multiplayer felt fresh and new. This feels like a product of its time. - Detection boxes- So say you have to over lapping things that you have to interact with the hit detection boxes for them dont always trigger or will keep bringing up the thing one but not the other adjacent item you are trying to interact with. and since there is A LOT of fetch quests that can make it very annoying. Overall, really I think what makes this game such a mixed bag for most fans off the series is that it feels like Capcom couldnt figure out what it wanted to be. So instead we get a middling product, with tons of potential, that ends up being lost because its aimless overall development. @ 24.99 I would NOT get it at all, but at the $2.99 to $4.99 I usually see it go to its not terrible at all a solid 33/50.
