As someone who played a ton of Master of Orion 2, I honestly didn't expect to like this one as much as I do. It's definitely a bit slower than MoO2 and takes a different approach. You can't just rush everything with your fleet and expect to win. Diplomacy, spying, alliances and keeping other races under control actually matter a lot more here, which gives the game a different kind of depth. The graphics and presentation obviously aged way better, the races have more personality, ship design is fun and the whole galaxy just feels more alive. It's not MoO2 2.0 and shouldn't really try to be. But if you go into it expecting a somewhat slower and more diplomatic/strategic Master of Orion, it's actually a really good game. Ps. Very cool that this game has achievements to hunt as well.
Master of Orion is a really enjoyable space strategy game and one that I still wish had received more long-term development. The core gameplay is solid, the presentation is great, and the combination of exploration, colonization, diplomacy, research, fleet building, and warfare works very well. It captures that classic 4X feeling without becoming too difficult to get into. What is disappointing is that the game feels like it had much more potential. I would love to see more updates, more content, balancing improvements, new mechanics, or ideally a proper sequel that builds on what is already here. There is a very good foundation in this game, and with continued development it could have become even better. I still recommend it to anyone who enjoys turn-based space strategy, but I really hope the series gets another chance in the future.
It's clean, it's stable. It's not as complicated as some of the 4x space civs. Finaly a 4x that'll just let you relax and enjoy terraforming, turning the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ corner of your galaxy into a beautiful garden. And then blow up your enemies homeworld for the slightest altercation. The turn the rubble of their homeworld into a barren world, colonise it, and terraform it into a beautiful garden. It's a peaceful life.
The best game in this series was MO 2. This version brings back that gameplay philosophy but adapts it with new graphics and real-time combat. It might be one of the best space 4X games out there, but I miss being able to switch back to the old turn-based combat system. They should give players the option to choose. Otherwise, the game’s improvements aren’t bad. Although, given my nostalgia for the original, I feel they still have a ways to go to match it. ------------------------ El mejor de esta serie era el MO 2. Esta versión recupera esa filosofía del juego pero adaptando con nuevos gráficos y jugabilidad en los combates que pasan a ser en tiempo real. Puede que sea de los mejores 4X espaciales que hay, pero hecho en falta poder recuperar el sistema de ataque por turnos antiguo. Debería dar posibilidad de escoger. Por lo demás no está mal la mejora del juego. Aunque la nostalgia del antiguo me da que les queda un poco para igualarlo.
Very fun, did a great job modernizing the classic and keeping true to the series. There are a few significant differences, mostly good. Must get the Unofficial Code Patch mod from the workshop and follow it's installation instructions to fix a few clear, not huge but somewhat significant errors.
