Its fine, but the original VII is better in almost every aspect. The only reason you should pick this up is if you want to experience the VR scenes of the girls invading your personal space. There are also some new in-game cutscenes thrown around but they are not frequent. The combat system is a little different but not enough to really warrant talking about it. Overall has less content. Its not a bad version of VII by any means, just not the definitive way to play the game. I'd recommend trying it out at least.

If Megadimension Neptunia VII was the series' heavy-hitter, then VIIR is the high-definition "Director’s Cut" that decided to add a whole new dimension—literally. This isn't just a remaster; it’s a total engine overhaul that brings the goddesses into your living room through VR. The core game is still the massive, three-part epic involving the "Zero Dimension," a crumbling world where Neptune meets Uzume—a new CPU with a megaphone and enough "cool" energy to power a small city. But the real change in VIIR is the combat. They threw out the old system and replaced it with a much more fluid, turn-based mechanic where your AP (Action Points) actually matters. I found myself obsessing over my turn order and positioning way more than I did in the original, as every move feels more tactical and less like a "spam your strongest move" simulator. Then, there’s the VR. You don't *need* a headset to play, but if you have one, the "VR Events" are a trip. Between the world-saving missions, you hang out in a stylized room where the goddesses come to visit you. It is peak meta-commentary: Neptune literally acknowledges you as the "Player," making it feel less like you’re playing a game and more like you’re the silent producer of their reality. It’s charming, a bit weird, and remarkably well-animated. The shift to a new engine (Silicon Studio's Orochi 4) makes everything look incredibly crisp. The lighting in the dark, apocalyptic Zero Dimension has a depth that makes the "end of the world" feel much more atmospheric. Plus, the removal of "random" encounters in favor of seeing enemies on the map is a quality-of-life upgrade I can never go back from. It’s the most polished, modern version of the best story in the franchise. Whether you’re here for the multi-dimensional stakes or just to watch Neptune break the fourth wall in 4K, this version is the definitive way to experience it. 9/10. My room is currently occupied by a digital goddess complaining about the lack of snacks, and I’ve never been more invested in a tactical battle system. The dimensions are merging, the CPUs are transforming, and I’m just trying to make sure everyone gets their pudding.

Megadimension Neptunia VIIR is an enhanced version of Megadimension Neptunia VII, combining improved visuals, updated systems, and optional VR features. While the core story remains the same, the game introduces performance upgrades, rebalanced combat mechanics, and a new virtual-room segment that emphasizes character interaction. Its goal is to refine the original experience while providing additional immersion for fans. The narrative is split across three interconnected dimensions—Zero Dimension, Hyper Dimension, and Heart Dimension—each with its own tone, conflicts, and character arcs. The story blends comedic writing with more serious themes about survival, responsibility, and identity. Its structure offers variety, shifting from bleak worlds to familiar Neptunia humor and charm. Combat is turn-based with an action-oriented positioning system. VIIR introduces refined animations, smoother pacing, and minor mechanical adjustments that make battles feel more responsive. The EXE Drive and formation skills add strategic decisions, while customizable combos allow players to tailor attacks to their preferred playstyle. The system remains accessible but offers enough depth to stay engaging. The VR room is the standout addition, allowing players to interact with various characters through short, event-driven conversations. While entirely optional and not tied to the main story, it provides extra personality moments and fan-service-focused scenes. It is designed as a novelty feature rather than a narrative expansion. Visual upgrades are noticeable, especially in character models and lighting. The environments appear cleaner, and battle effects are more polished compared to the original VII release. Performance improvements also contribute to a smoother overall experience. The soundtrack remains strong, mixing energetic battle themes with atmospheric tracks that enhance each dimension’s mood. Side quests and optional challenges give players extra content, though they follow the series’ familiar pattern of fetch tasks and bonus battles. Their primary purpose is to support progression and provide additional dialogue for fans who enjoy exploring character dynamics. Crafting, scouting, and dungeon exploration return with minor refinements but remain largely unchanged. Megadimension Neptunia VIIR succeeds as a more polished and technically improved version of the original game. While its VR additions are optional and relatively small, the visual upgrades, smoother combat, and performance enhancements make it the definitive way to experience this entry. For fans of the series or newcomers interested in its blend of humor, characters, and RPG mechanics, VIIR offers a refined and enjoyable adventure.

Megadimension Neptunia VIIR is overall a very similar game to the original Megadimension Neptunia VII, copying all its main strengths as arguably the best turned-based RPG in the Neptunia series. The main question is whether it surpasses the original, and I would say it does. The biggest change in VIIR is the battle system, which I find highly engaging. VIIR adds a new action point system where each character accumulates a certain number of points per turn and may take as many actions on their turn as they have action points for. This allows you to take less actions on one turn in order to take multiple consecutive actions on later turns before the enemy is able to act. Combine this with the new skills added to every character in the game and there is a much greater variety of actions available to players in combat. Add onto that a new battle point system that allows you to customize stats on level up and I dare say VIIR has the best combat experience in any turn-based RPG Neptunia game to date. VIIR also boasts a number of quality of life features: -An improved level curve that makes grinding completely unnecessary -The party is completely healed after every battle -Auto saves that allow you to quit the game any time, even inside dungeons -The ability to freely check enemy stats including the locations of vulnerable points that were not so obvious in VII -Removal of branched endings and the need to look up how to get the game's true end Everything mentioned above makes VIIR the definitive experience IMO, but it does have a few backsteps relative to VII worth mentioning: -They added an inventory limit then sold the limit removal as DLC -The dungeon jumping physics were screwed up in subtle ways inconsequential in normal gameplay but it makes the Neplunker Zero dungeon much harder -The VII DLC characters are not included Lastly I'll mention that the VR scenes in VIIR are really nothing special. The dialogue is pretty boring, and kind of cringy the way they make the player an insert character. They also don't look very good as the same low-detail character models used in the main game are used for the VR scenes and they don't look great when viewed up close.
