A simple basic hacking game. Gives you an idea of being a hacker with a turn-based RPG style makes it fun and interesting.

I'm really fond of hacking and programming games. This one is one of the best. It's not realistic hacking by any measure—but it is hacking gamified in one of the best ways I know of. Basically, it's an RPG with turn-based tactical combat and a hackers-themed story with a great interface. The latter may be a point of contention for many — but I, personally, have great affinity for any developer who makes their game playable on keyboard alone (carpal tunnel syndrome is an issue for me). Here, keyboard is the only options, and you'll have to type commands or hotkeys for everything. To me, this adds a lot to the atmosphere and the feel of game. It's a Hollywood-esque take on "hacking" vibe-wise but at same time it's moderately deep from the perspective of tactics and deck-building. So, if something like Duskers and Hacknet is your thing, you're going to enjoy this game a lot. Grabbed during the sale for 5-6 bucks, it's a steal.

This is a great game, but it's hard to describe. Part puzzle game, but strategy, part RPG... if you like games that are hard to categorize into the usual buckets, this is for you. Very unique, great writing, and even in the turn based mode it has moments where I get surprisingly tense. This game oozes it's theme from every pore and you can tell the creators cared a lot about it.

Really neat "hacking" game - or more accurately - a cyberpunk-themed puzzle game. It's not quite at the level of the alltime classic, Uplink, but it's really really good. You purchase and equip various programs and hardware add ons, then use them to complete a wide variety of missions. The missions themselves have numerous options that are integrated organically into what you can do. For example, you might be investigating someone's home network and stumble across their bank savings, and you'll have different outcomes based on if you leave it untouched or not. There's an overarching plot as well as numerous side plotlines that come together in various ways. There can be a lot to keep track of and the plot itself has a few really complicated (but cool!) moments. Only gripe I had is that while there are a ton of various program/hardware options, once you figure out a configuration that works well, it's pretty easy to just use that for everything. There are only a couple missions that really force you to use different configurations.

Midnight Protocol is like plugging into a digital underworld, where every keystroke is a shot fired, every decision is a red pill or blue pill moment. The game throws you into a cyberpunk matrix, where you're not just playing a hacker—you are the hacker. The tension is palpable as you crack through firewalls and unravel conspiracies, all within a stylized interface that feels like you’re bending code to your will. It's a mind-bending ride, and if you’re looking to dive deep into the code, this is the one.
