March 2026
Movies Tycoon is a business simulation game that puts you in charge of building and managing your own film studio empire. Blending elements of economic strategy, creative management, and historical progression, the game aims to capture the glamour and grit of the movie industry—from modest indie beginnings to blockbuster dominance. The primary gameplay loop revolves around balancing creative ambition and financial pragmatism. Overspending on an arthouse drama might win awards but bankrupt your studio. Playing it safe with generic action films may make steady cash—but harm long-term prestige. Progression feels steady and logical. You gradually move from low-budget productions to complex, high-budget blockbusters. There’s a satisfying sense of scaling operations over time. Managing talent is more than hiring the highest stat character. Star actors may demand huge salaries or refuse certain genres. Long-term contracts can secure loyalty but restrict flexibility. While the system adds realism, it lacks deeper personality dynamics. Rivalries, scandals, and behind-the-scenes drama are relatively shallow, missing an opportunity for emergent storytelling. From a simulation standpoint, Movies Tycoon sits in the mid-range of complexity. It’s not as punishing or deeply systemic as hardcore economic simulations, but it offers enough depth to require real strategic thinking. Visually, the game leans toward a clean management UI rather than cinematic immersion. You won’t see film sets in detailed 3D production sequences—instead, you operate through dashboards, charts, and management screens. If you’re looking for deep character drama or a cinematic sandbox experience, you may find it somewhat dry. But if you enjoy carefully tuning budgets, tracking ROI, and building a profitable media empire, it delivers steady satisfaction. Movies Tycoon is a competent and engaging film-industry management sim. It successfully captures the financial and strategic side of running a movie studio, even if it lacks emotional storytelling or high production spectacle. It’s not revolutionary within the tycoon genre, but it’s a solid entry that rewards careful planning and long-term thinking. A well-designed management sim that shines in systems depth, but could benefit from stronger personality and presentation. 8/10 DISASTER | BAD | MEDIOCRE | OKAY | GOOD | GREAT |AMAZING| MASTERPIECE Reviewed on: Win11 Home 64-bit, Intel i5-11600K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB PRIME, 32GB DDR4-3600 RAM, 2 x Kingston NV1 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, Internet Broadband 1000/1000 Mbit If you like this review, then please consider giving it a thumbs up. I don’t hate the game, but I can’t fully say I like it either. The core gameplay is good, and it’s clearly improving over time. The production loop and management aspect are enjoyable, and the game shows a lot of potential as it continues to develop. However, one major issue holds it back: buildings are permanent. You can’t remove buildings, rotate them, or reposition them once they’re placed. As you progress and level up, many low-level buildings become obsolete, yet you’re forced to keep them forever, taking up valuable space with no real use. A possible solution would be to introduce building upgrade paths. Instead of rebuilding the same structure repeatedly as you level up, allow players to upgrade existing buildings into higher-tier versions. This would reduce clutter, improve long-term planning, and make progression feel more natural and rewarding. There are also some minor bugs, but nothing game-breaking if you’re willing to overlook them. Overall, the foundation is solid, but QOL improvements, especially around building management would significantly improve the experience.

Its pretty rough. I like it, I like the idea behind it, but its lazy in some places. If there is anything to take away from the Movies Game made by Lionsgate its that even though it was lacking in gameplay, it was a game that had alot of soul behind it. Its unfair to make that comparison to Movies tycoon but I feel like its missing from my life. This is a sequel to it what Cities Skylines 2 was to the original. Here's whats missing: -The Movies had characters with personality. Each character's walk cycle had personality and a bounce to it. The characters in this glide around and I am taken out of the game the second I see that scooby doo run animation. -The Movies had scenes for days. I feel like I am watching a Family Guy cutaway with Movies Tycoons scenes. There is no soul or personality to it. -The Movies had a superior Ui. I would rather have individual screens for things instead of having to pan the camera to a building in order to check my finances and crew stats. -Ost isnt bad in this but I really miss the original's Djs -There isnt much economic difficulty. I over hired when starting a game but instead of going bankrupt, I sat at 5.3 million. - There are too many layers to film production in this. No one wants to micro buying equipment and keeping track of what crews have what. The game is simplified where it doesn't need to be and convoluted where it shouldn't. -Training... Out of all the things I hated from the Movies game, they had to somehow make training your creatives even more frustrating and hand holding than the original. If we are going to have sliders for Custodians, why not for the Talent? Thats your bread and butter. I just wish they would just automatically practice instead of me having to pick up individual actors, directors, and screen writers. -Some minor things like hair clipping into people's skulls , costumes are very lack luster, and the npc's have that 1000 yard stare like most games built on unity. Its a good game but don't think this even comes close to the game that started it all. 6/10 - Hollywood Reporter.

I never played Lionshead's 'The Movies' game. I did watch the Flabiliki playthrough of it and wanted to play the game real bad. That being said, that old game is kinda lost media at this point. That is where Movies Tycoon comes in. I think that Movies Tycoon is a good substitute for 'The Movies' if you don't have the old disk laying around. That being said, I can see where this game is lacking. This game came out about 20 years after 'The Movies' and feels a bit like it has less which is disappointing. I do recommend it, I like this game a lot. But I will leave ideas below so hopefully the devs can add something. Suggestions: 1: Allow us to make TV series. That would be a great additiona and would differentiate this game from 'The Movies' 2: Please give us some more centralized way to see our actors' strengths and weaknesses. 3: Allow us to promote extras. 4: Add more to morale. We should have actors who don't like working with other actors or great chemistry with certain actors/directors. And we should have ways of mitigating/worsening some of those relations. 5: There should be a way for actors to move studio. Like the actors should have time based or film/tv series based contract lengths. 6: BUDGETS! I have been thinking about this for a while and each project should have a budget outlay during the production priority stage. Real studios have problems with movies going over budget or being in development hell and that should be reflected in part in the game. Like we should be able to set a budget for a film but then if it takes too long to film because of some actor acting like a diva or film equipment breaking or something, then it is a bigger risk to the studio. Alternatively, if you really believe in a project, you should be able to invest heavily in it which would give it that extra bump to the audience. 7: Equipment mishaps. 8: Accidents that may cause harm to the cast and crew. 9: Egos. The actors should have a sense of ego and you should have to deal with that (I think The Movies had this) 10: Star Power. The actors themselves should have a drawing power to the films and projects they are in. Like if you have an actor who has been in a lot of well liked movies, they should have a drawing power alongside their acting and genre skills. Overall, I think that this game could be fantastic. There should be a bigger emphasis on risk/reward and adding depth. Solid foundation, I am excited to see what comes in the next several DLCs.

It is showing promise. Not quite The Movies, but it is the closest thing we have to it right now.
