Played MB2 & Recon as a kid. When I heard about this it was an immediate buy. I'm glad this has the goofiness of the old games but the added grit is great. Voice lines are still great. It's a simple but still fun game. It gave me something decent to play on my low powered laptop when I was abroad. It can get somewhat "micro-managey" at times. The campaign is a cool concept, but I always liked the defensive nature of classic MB. I noticed many of the negative reviews are about "classic mode is bad because you just die to something stupid or overpowered." The game might be cartoony and silly at times but it does get one thing right. In war sometimes you do indeed just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die to something stupid and overpowered.
I remember playing the flash game and even looking up the hacked versions to fully embrace the chaos. This absolutely improves upon the flash version in every single way. More enemies, harder battles, more unfair random brutality, and best of all... The dev actually adds more stuff to the game. New enemies means new strats to combat the enemies. This game is unfair, you will want to rage quit sometimes, but then your team gets one random kill and turns the whole tide around. I do wish I could play as the Germans just to get the other side of the experience honestly, but I will also never complain about playing as the Allies. After all, that is the winning side ;). 10/10, highly recommend at full price. The game ages like the finest wine. Play it, you will not regret it. Go forth and conquer.
The negative reviews i've read are missing the point of this game. It's not suppose to be fair and player friendly. It's not suppose to be easy. It's suppose to feel like real war. You will lose men, you will lose many men. Sometimes you will lose half a dozen squads just on one map. Brutal, Unfair and Random, just like real war. If your looking for a main character, hero game or something easy and boring, go elsewhere, this isn't for you. If you can't stand losing, go away. A single artillery shell can and will land in the wrong place at the wrong time and wipe out your squad, that's part of the game, and that is what happens in real life. War is not fair and this game does an excellent job of portraying that. This is one of those games where you just have to take a backseat and say to yourself, welp there goes my squad, alright you guys are next. How you develope as player in this game feels just like a world war general would, you start off thinking alright, here's my squad I got a sniper dude he's cool and this other guy has a radio he can call in air support and oh this guys cool hes special forces etc. your invested in your men's livehood and everything is going well, your kicking the germans but and then ... you send them into a machine gun nest..... riiiip. Ah well I'll get a new squad ..... land mines ...... next lotta dudes .... tank gets them etc. By the 10000000th squad you just don't care anymore. Ah well we might lose a dude or two but we have to keep pushing kind of mentality to, I literally don't care about my men anymore, your not going to live long enough for me to remeber your name. Just go die. (you can leave them some poppies on their graves in the cemetery if your feeling sentimental). Honestly encapulates how I think many generals would have felt in the wars. The 2008 original was an absolute banger and this game is nothing like anything else that I've come across. Spent hours playing it, couldn't recomend it more. Big Kudos to URB for breaking the mould and making something unique and realistically brutal for the player, unlike 99% of other game developers. 10/10
