If you're looking for a life sim that focuses on gathering and crafting instead of farming, it's hard not to recommend My Time At Sandrock. It does some things better than Portia, but man is it a long game. At first you'll be very busy just gathering supplies, befriending townsfolk, and slowly building your workshop. But there's a reason that only 16% of players make it to the halfway point and only 8% of players actually finish the game: it's a slog and to say the pacing is poor would be generous. It takes a crazy amount of time for new areas to open up and main quests to trigger. I finally completed the story after 182 hours and nearly half of that was spent sleeping the days away in the morning after completing daily commissions, just hoping that the next day would trigger a story event, a way to open a new area, or anything to break up the monotony of late game. Still, there's no other life sim on the market, that isn't centered on farming, that does the genre this well. The writing is passable, the combat is very simple, and each area feels slightly different (when they finally open up, at which point you'll be so over leveled that there's no challenge). Every aspect is enjoyable until it becomes tedious, except "fishing", which I put in parentheses because it's not actually fishing, but rather a terrible little minigame where you throw a metal claw in the sand to grab fish. So, sure, I recommend My Time At Sandrock if you're tired of the Harvest Moon formula of life sims and don't mind bad pacing. Just be aware that, while it's not a bad game and there's fun moments to be had, it's way overhyped.

I wanted a game that was Harvest Moon-like and was different from the Stardew Valley art style but was multiplayer (no hate, I love the game just wanted something different) and this game fit that perfectly. I highly recommend this game even at full price, it is worth it and rivals the Story of Seasons genre easily. However, I did not like the game at first, I even thought about returning it. This is due to my one issue with this game, the Multiplayer and the Single player experience is wildly different. Not to say the multiplayer experience is bad but it is definitely meant to be played after fully playing the main story in Single player. I purchased this game to play with my husband and we started this game in multiplayer, their was very little to no interesting story, events were not exciting or did not occur, their was no reason besides occasional small talk to connect to the few characters available. It felt like something was missing and it was not engaging. My husband was at work and I wanted to play so I loaded up the single player version and immediately it was different. Amazing cut scenes, characters feel unique and alive, the story was amazing, the pacing was great-always had something to do, and 109 hours in and I still have not finished the story. It is an entirely different game in every way. I feel like they need a disclaimer to finish Single player before starting to play with friends. Multiplayer is not all bad going back to it, I still prefer playing in single player but their are things that I wish were available in both versions of the game. The skill tree is entirely different than single player and it has skills that I would love in Singleplayer that I have yet to see the ability to unlock if it ever will be available. The town is needs to be built up and characters need to be unlocked in Multiplayer making the player feel like they are why there is a town whereas in Singleplayer the player feels like they are joining the town and learning how to integrate in it. I would not mind having a balance of the two, although in Singleplayer there are characters that need to be unlocked so not everyone is available at the start, it is not as dramatic as Multiplayer. I love the "daily milestone" multiplayer has that is absent from Singleplayer. There are a lot more differences but I do not want to give out too much information. In conclusion: -Highly recommend Single player -Multiplayer after playing Single player is fun Wish the Devs would have just integrated added multiplayer into the single player game experience and made the multiplayer experience NG+. I'm sorry if this is too long or for any grammatical errors, thank you for your time.

9/10 Ever wonder what it would be like if Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon actually had a good story—where everything in the world feels interconnected, kind of like the Trails series? If that sounds like your thing, then… THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU. You start off as a humble builder trying to help rebuild a dying town. It starts simple—doing easy commissions—but before you know it: there’s a spy in town, the church is secretly evil, an invasion from another country happens, there’s a low-budget evil Superman running around, and suddenly there's a bunch of political drama out of nowhere. IT’S JUST SO PEAK. I LOVE IT.

First of all, I love this game. I've racked up hundreds of hours across several playthroughs, so I feel qualified to make my first ever review. The game itself is pretty simple at first. Collect resources, take commissions and build up your workshop. But as the story gradually unravels and you begin to befriend the residents of Sandrock, the true game begins. I'm a writer myself and love the way the characters are distinct with personalities and quirks of their own. Their reactions to the many and varied happenings in the story line are all kept within character while still allowing for growth. The voice acting is great with only a couple of notable exceptions (I'm looking at you, Arvio and Grace. Yikes) I would have liked a little more variation on everyday speech from spouses, but understand that there are limitations to that sort of thing. There were moments when I cried laughing the first time I played. Unsuurs flat monotone perfectly suits his character and to borrow a phrase, his particular brand of weirdness is endearing, I found his whole storyline hilarious and heartwarming. Justice with his unintentional puns had me chuckling, and even Coopers rants made me laugh. The story line is balanced with wins and losses and overcoming adversity for everyone. (Almost) Everyone gets a chance for personal growth and/or redemption and it doesn't feel forced or rushed, but naturally unfolds over the entirety of the story. The game isn't afraid to laugh at itself, and there are easter eggs and references to various other games and pop culture galore. Now, onto the the not as great parts. Some things in the game felt unfinished or not particularly well thought out. Decorating your home and workshop is great, but the tiny amount of options available really limit what you can do. Some of the items are story locked or not available unless you romance a particular character. I would have loved more options for decoration other than books or the very few objects that can be only be placed on very specific items of furniture. Why can't I place a lamp on a table? Or use furniture for storage? Why is the mysterious man only available once a season with only two furniture chests that can repeat the contents far too often. I don't need any more flippin' yakboy stools thank you very much! I got six in a row once. That was super annoying. The fashion is um, unique? As you gain levels the clothing gets more and more ridiculous. I know you have the option for a skin, but really? Running around town dressed as a rainbow dinosaur kind of spoiled the immersion for me. Most of the gear seems aimed at a male builder, I would have liked a simple dress or two to pad out the wardrobe for my female builder for festivals, dates, etc. Like, I know my character is a kickass, builder/civil corp member/warrior, but maybe she'd like to feel pretty sometimes too? The DLC's offer some more options, but only a few. I guess my only gripes with the game, is that I just want more of the game. lol. None of my complaints are a deal breaker though, the storyline is rich, deep and entertaining and ultimately satisfying. The twists aren't particularly surprising, but do add to the story rather than detracting from it with surface level shock value. The controls are mostly intuitive and don't take long to learn, and you can take the game at your own pace. There is plenty of replay value, exploring the romances with the available bachelors and bachelorettes and getting to know the various characters you had little to do with on your previous playthroughs, and with over fifty characters there is always something new to learn. This game is one of my favourites and I'm eagerly anticipating the next game of the series. 9/10, Have already bought it on multiple platforms and upgraded from a laptop to a PC to make the most of it.

I've put well over 1000 hours into this game, including Steam and XBox, and it remains one of my all-time favorites that I keep coming back to. For me, it is the perfect balance of a compelling story, layered characters, interesting and funny dialogue, and relationships, paired with the perfect resource gathering, mining, fun combat, and construction elements. Pathea is an amazing studio that truly cares about their players and puts so much love into all of their games. I can't wait for My Time at Evershine!
