I don't know where this developer came from but for their first game (at least on Steam) they knocked it out of the park. The premise is simple: you're running a newspaper in NYC during the 1930s. The first couple of hours plays like a base building game that shaves down some of the more obtuse bits that can come the genre (e.g. Oxygen Not Included) but as you continue you begin to realize the surprising scale this game goes to. What begins as micromanaging a few individual reporters, staff, and compiling simple newspaper layouts eventually balloons to dozens of employees to maintain. Formatting your paper for max viewership across several topics. Managing risks like mobsters, protesters, and lawsuits. Competing with other papers for articles. Manipulating the public perception of your political bias. Supporting specific factions that ask for particular types of articles who in turn give you benefits as well. And ordering paper. Just so much dang paper. All while trying to make sure you're ready to print by EOD Sunday. My only criticism is the lack of a database to get information on specific game mechanics. It took me hours to realize I could pipe paper through walls to reach my printing modules. I had to Google how to defend against Spies. Among other small hiccups that took a bit of tinkering that otherwise could've been addressed with a good knowledge base. Please support this game. These folks 100% deserve it and if you're a base building gamer like myself you will get far more out of this $25 game than any $70 AAA alternative.

Since Early Access, I've enjoyed playing News Tower. It's a fun blend of office management and strategy. you create a news paper by sending out reporters to cover the news. Then when it's ready, send it to the production line for print. Once that's done, you sort out which articles make the front page. Each news article has it's own unique set of icons. Each one acts like a daisy chain if paired with other like articles. So you can make your front page all about Crime for a bonus, more so if you have matching side news like if it's dealing in scandal, gossip, or whatever. The interface has a fun way of feeling weighted. Like the HUD is as much a part of your newspaper assembly line. The bgm is soothing with a energetic tempo and relaxing vibe as you work your news empire. Overall, I will say this game's a buy. It's fun, simple, casual and engaging.

Named my newspaper, The Washington Post so I could give out political bribes, sway elections, and do PR for criminal cover-ups just like the real Jeff Bezos. Now lemme just take off my clown nose for a sec to genuinely say, this really is a fun and engaging management sim, 8.5/10. I tip my newies cap off to the devs.

Some games get everything just right - the game, narrative and visual design is fantastic, the balance is fair, the progression is exciting, the customisation is really fun. You will name your staff and get invested in their careers, cheering their victories or cursing their failures. You will assemble a solid collection of articles for your reputable paper or chuck every half-assed report together in haste for your despicable tabloid. Whatever you decide to do, however you play, pressing that "Print" button and watching your paper go through the printing machine will never, ever get old. I played a bunch of this during EA, and I can't quite express the pleasure it was to go through this game, knowing I would be back time and time again. Because there is nothing quite like it, it is filled with soul, deliberate and thoughtful design, a sense of time and place. An easy recommend for any management/tycoon-game lovers out there.
