its "the worst ninja gaiden" in the same way dark souls 2 is "the worst dark souls" its a 6 or 7/10 on its own, and its waaaayyyy better than most action games out there, but considering the series its from, its easily the worst and playing through it i feel the thought of "man i wish i was playing ninja gaiden 2" creeping up a lot

Arguably the best combat in the franchise, NG3RE has been unfairly maligned for quite some time. It significantly improves on the terrible original NG3 with vastly improved mechanics, encounters, and content. Strategies like UT spam and essence chaining are removed, which gives the combat a much different (and significantly harder) flow, but once mastered, it is excellent. The girls are fully playable throughout the game and are at their absolute best, as is the Dragon Sword, Dual Swords, and Eclipse Scythe (other weapons are more mixed in implementation). However, the game still suffers from the original's bad story and mostly terrible bosses. In addition, the increased difficulty means that the lack of healing items, extremely difficult encounter design, and new skill floor (no essence chaining) are very punishing. Additionally, many enemies ignore light attacks until bloodied, punishing players for experimenting with combos. However, the game is still the fastest, most brutal game in the franchise and should be experienced just for it's combat alone, despite the blemishes it cannot shake off from the original 3.

I could say a lot of things about this game, but I look at the reviews here and come to the conclusion that it's not worth it. It is what it is. But I will say this: it's the best single player action game I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

killing people has never been more fun, unfortunately almost everything else about this game is horseshit and infuriating to play that you'll want to kill someone for some design decisions made, so if you're a masochist its a pretty decent experience

This game is absolutely horrible. While it may seem decent at first with admittedly solid and fun combat, It WILL slowly break you down throughout your playthrough until all you have left is bitterness and frustration towards the game that killed your favorite action series for over a decade. This game is WORSE than DMC2, and you can quote me on that. I hate, hate, hate this game so, so much. Anyway, thumbs up. Pick it up when you can, you'll love it.
