No Man's Sky achieved the impossible—resurrection from gaming's most notorious failure into a content-rich exploration simulator. Yet it remains the perfect embodiment of modern gaming's existential paradox: infinite content generating finite experiences. You'll spend hours naming planets no one will visit, cataloging species no one will see, and building bases no one will inhabit—a perfect digital recreation of our cosmic insignificance.

I am 82 years old. This game is a real challenge for my short term memory. If you don't remember key strokes, you will die regularly. My grandson is embarrassing me.

I can't believe they kept working on it after launch. I can't believe they didn't just take the money and run. I can't believe they righted their wrongs. I can't believe they delivered on their promises. I can't believe they unsunk the sinking ship. I can't believe this game is finally worth the money.

Recent update had me lose 170 hours of progress. 4 huge bases with atmo and resource farms? Gone Frame rate destroying igniter and Cryo farm? Gone An ungodly amount of units and nanites? Gone Over half of the reclaimed quicksilver rewards (NGL, this one really hurt)? Gone But NMS is a game about exploration. It's a game about discovery. So after about five minutes of just shocked silence, three minutes of blubbering, and a deep breath, I just clicked New Game and started over again. Yup, still love this game.

Rough launch or not, the No Man's Sky of today is everything that was promised and more. I cannot absolve the devs of false promises, but I am also free to praise them for the merits they've earned. VR, expeditions, years of updates, diverse missions, aesthetic patches, different types of bases, exosuits, submarines, *actually existing* multiplayer, new ships, multitools, and I was shocked revisiting the game after a few years. No Man's Sky in 2024 is a completely different game.
