What would it look like if you took the low poly graphics of old games but without the restrictions of old hardware, letting the game have far render distances and high foliage among other things. This is the thought I have had for a while now, while trying to find a game that answers the question. Northern Journey is exactly what I have been looking for, It is personally one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, it is not about the high level of detail but in the way that the artist uses the assets, like how a painting can be more beautiful then a picture from a camera. Many times I found myself just enjoying the environments with all the amazing views while listening to the ambiance. Now the other things the game has to offer where very interesting, It has a bizarre story with weird characters to interact with and some fun and unique scenarios to navigate through (I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into any detail about it). The other thing is the combat that uses only slow bow type weapons while throwing dozens of fast moving enemies at you, which can get very difficult, but I found very fun and engaging. I am so glad I found this game because it is now one of my personal favorite games.

Just a phenomenal game. There is some jank and a few frustrating boss fights but otherwise I love this game and I think abck on every moment fondly. It feels like how games used to feel, fresh new and weird.

this game is great! however you shouldnt play it if you are afraid of: bugs, water, heights, beautiful grassy meadows, poorly animated scandinavians, interdimensional travel, slippery geometry, flutes, witchcraft and children. other than that its awesome

More variety than some modern triple A games. More tense and scary than a lot of horror games I've played. A soundtrack that I won't forget. Graphics that go between beautiful to haunting in a moment. Despite some slippery physics that lead to many many deaths, I can't deny that for some of it's faults, this game is one of the most unique and engaging experiences I've had in a game in awhile. It feels like if you mixed Pathologic and Morrowind steeping in some mid-European lore
