No wonder this changed games back then The way its narrative structure blends with the places you visit and the environment in general is nothing short of perfect, the story is too. Something is happening in front of you and there's always a theme in the back. The characters and their ideals are extremely solid and interesting considering its a 2007 game. It basically asks: what would happen if you put a group of people in a metropolis without anyone enforcing any kind of law? this with the justification of an individual being "totally free", people are not perfect, so you get one of the most gorgeous dystopias ever written. Rapture is stunning and probably one of the most authentic original ideas in game environment. Very creative gameplay and powers/abilities, and, while obviously feeling a bit outdated is honestly fine, not a single complaint, just keep in mind its age. Idk how to end this review, just play it lol.
Definitely a great classic mid 2000s era with about under 15 hours type of game. 7.5/10. I played on the steam machine with the steam controller and I didn't have any bugs and this is including someone making a handful of saves for each area. While the story in todays eyes is a little bland, theres a ton of little details that will fly by until they are investigated. Plenty of times I would move on and then be like wait what was that and turn back to actually look. It does have any interesting message and world view to our current world. Each location is unique, each room has there only setup that fits with the background stories and the type of people that lived there. This where this game shines in my eyes, which is easy to tell with Fort Frolic was personally my favorite area, especially knowing its giving us an inside look with whats occurring in the mindset of "The Artist". I will say I liked that we dont ever physically interact with anyone, like theres no shopkeepers and even with some npcs having a few scenes where they are in front of you theres always some type of wall separating you from them; which gives us something to deep dive storywise if wanted. Visually this game is beautiful! The water inside, under, above, and outside is incredibly and still top tier in todays time. I would get distracted looking at into the ocean and windows and alot of the time it was worth it you would see these little events happen. I loved that in one area you can actually hear a whale its amazing. And that you can see the other building depending where you at etc. The lighting is also amazing and crazy cool to keep in mind that the story is under water, but theres outside light from plants or the lighting from the energy being used to keep the place alive/ Coming from a player that FPS games aren't my favorite, this one is fun and being able to bring down the difficult setting if wanted is nice. Weapons and powers are easy to use and the descriptions do a good job how letting you know what they do. The research/camera feature was a disappointing since it doesnt let you track it to see what more you need and it can kill the scary mood. One negative is the "boss" battles are super underwhelming, barely any feel good for beating, no real like yeah lets do this motivation, just okay defeated on to the next area. The ending was super, thats it?, type of vibes. It is nice to hear the director's commentary bring up this topic and explain the reasoning why. A warning listening to these theres a couple that can spoiler the later games. Another annoyance is the hacking, in the beginning its fun and a little rng and the player might just end up slapping down an auto-hack tool, which was is a nice Qol that relieved the stress of the rngness. Also this game is heavy noised populated, for example heres a sound bite for every little thing, which in the begging helped hugly set the atmosphere and the creepiness. However, after awhile the enemies will just be yapping too much to the point where you end up laughing and kinda mocking the enemies; the "broadway" line was my kryptonite. There is side content its entertaining, finding the roses were a little tuff in a good way. There are timed achievements tired to the side stuff, but its do able and there's the difficulty glitch. Achievement wise not bad at all, would recommend a guide for the collectables if you want to play thru it once. For the research/camera achievements a big hint is you can scan the same enemies a couple of times to help more it along.
BioShock Remastered completely lived up to the hype. I loved the gameplay from start to finish, and exploring the world never stopped being fun. I ended up getting the good ending, and honestly, it had me tearing up it was such a wholesome and satisfying way to end the journey. Easily one of the best games I've played
Okay, this is probably one of my top 3 first-person shooters of all time. I’ve beaten it at least 20 times already. Watch daddy platinum Steam verison now I don’t even know where to begin explaining why I love it so much. It’s one of those games that comes as close to actual “art” as videogames can get, the complete opposite of the soulless sludge a lot of modern games feel like. I also have a lifetime of memories tied to it from replaying it over and over throughout the years. This is still one of the greatest shooters you can play purely for the story and atmosphere. I’m not going to talk much about the combat, I admit it may be aged. Either way, after replaying this game so many times, even the hardest difficulty without Vita-Chambers stopped being even a little challenging for me halfway through. It’s the story and atmosphere that matters. The unbelievably unique underwater Art Deco city. Where else have you seen something like this? But for me, the game also turns into this weird immersive looter simulator where you crawl through the ruins of a once-luxurious city, slaughtering its decadent inhabitants, looting everything not nailed to the floor, smashing every vending machine, drinking every bottle of alcohol you find, and overdosing on plasmids beyond human comprehension. And when old-timey music starts playing from a jukebox while I’m standing there chugging my tenth bottle of Arcadia Merlot surrounded by burning splicer corpses, I experience absolute bliss. This game is pure visual and atmospheric ecstasy, and somehow it still remains one even on the twentieth playthrough. If you’re from a newer generation trying it for the first time today, give it a little time to warm up. Not much. Once it does, you won’t be able to stop.
There was a slight chance that I could've lived my whole life without playing this Masterpiece, One of the best stories I've ever experienced in gaming and as a huge fan of environmental storytelling I gotta admit it's one of the best ever in that category. Andrew Ryan is one of the best written video game antagonist I've ever seen, This game came out 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decades ago dude and has better gameplay than a lot of modern games, So 'Would you kindly' play this game right ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ now? :D
