Oblivion Override is a fast, stylish, and highly kinetic roguelite that throws you into a dying mechanical world where survival depends entirely on how well you can adapt to its aggressive combat rhythm. Developed by Humble Mill and published by XD, the game wastes no time establishing its identity: it is a side-scrolling action title built around tight movements, fluid animation, and a deliberate emphasis on precision. You begin as Crimson, a combat mech awakening in desolate ruins filled with hostile machines, and the game immediately sets you moving through shifting rooms, traps, arenas, and branching paths. Every run feels like an escalating dance between speed and strategy, rewarding skillful aggression while punishing hesitation. From the very beginning, the sense of physicality in the movement—dashing, sliding, double-jumping, chaining combos—forms the backbone of the experience. The core combat loop is the highlight and easily one of the game’s strongest achievements. Weapons feel meaningfully distinct, and the developers embrace a creative range of armaments, from traditional swords and spears to eccentric and comedic options like giant woks, oversized sawblades, or absurdly heavy weapons that alter your entire fighting rhythm. Each choice affects how you approach enemies and how you manage space, timing, and momentum. Combat encounters come at you with an intensity that demands near-constant motion, and the responsiveness of the controls allows you to chain attacks, dodges, and aerial strikes in ways that feel fluid and gratifying. Boss fights elevate these systems further, forcing you to adapt to unpredictable patterns and adjust builds on the fly. Success relies as much on understanding your tools as on reading enemy behavior, giving each battle a sense of escalating tension and earned satisfaction. Beyond moment-to-moment combat, the game supports its replay-focused structure with a deep and varied system of progression. Each run introduces opportunities to acquire new weapons, apply temporary enhancements, and choose evolution nodes that shape your mech’s strengths. The evolution system, in particular, adds a layer of long-term planning within each run: repeatedly selecting upgrades from the same “specialization” unlocks more powerful signature abilities, encouraging you to commit to a theme rather than scatter your choices. This introduces interesting risk-reward dynamics, as sometimes specializing early yields incredible builds, while other times the game’s randomness forces improvisation. Outside of the runs, permanent upgrades, new weapons, additional mech units, and unlockable utilities provide long-term goals that steadily broaden the variety of possible builds. It creates the sense of a roguelite that grows richer with each session, even if the actual structure of runs remains compact. The world of Oblivion Override complements its mechanical strengths with a rich visual style. Its environments blend neon-lit tech, industrial ruins, and stark metallic architecture, resulting in a world that feels both desolate and alive. The art direction emphasizes sharp silhouettes and bold animations that keep combat readable despite the fast pace. Enemies are distinct in their silhouettes and movement styles, allowing skilled players to quickly interpret threats even when multiple foes crowd the screen. The soundtrack reinforces the mechanical, post-apocalyptic tone with energetic tracks that remain present without overwhelming the action. As a whole, the aesthetic direction supports the sense of speed and danger, without ever distracting from the core gameplay loop. However, the game’s strengths also highlight some of its limitations. The emphasis on randomness—both in weapon drops and in upgrade offerings—means runs can feel uneven, with some builds emerging naturally powerful while others struggle from the outset. While this is typical for the genre, the intensity of the combat makes those unlucky runs feel particularly punishing. Some players may find the progression system slightly overwhelming early on due to the number of currencies and unlock paths. Additionally, though the game features multiple biomes and bosses, the mid-run structure can become familiar after many hours, and the game relies heavily on its combat depth and build variety to maintain long-term interest rather than expanding its level structure or narrative elements. Even with these caveats, Oblivion Override remains a standout action roguelite thanks to its commitment to fast, responsive combat and its generous weapon variety. It offers players a space to experiment with wild builds, test their mastery of movement, and take on challenging encounters that reward precision and adaptability. It succeeds by creating a sense of flow—runs feel quick, deaths rarely feel pointless, and the improvements you unlock contribute directly to meaningful experimentation. For players who enjoy skill-based action titles, weapon discovery, and the addictive loop of perfecting a build one run at a time, the game delivers an experience that is stylish, punchy, and deeply satisfying. Amazing game, I couldn't recommend more. The combos, synergies, dialogue, EVERYTHING was wonderful. Only complaint is that it feels difficult to get back into after not playing for a while, as this game has a super unique style. Then again, that's also a compliment.

Fantastic Action Roguelite, way better than Dead Cells IMO. It's like if Dead Cells and MegaMan X were crossed together. Cannot recommend enough.
