A pretty fun JRPG that feels like going on another adventure with the Straw Hat crew. The turn-based combat is simple but enjoyable, and the character abilities make battles feel very One Piece. Exploration is decent, though some areas can feel a bit linear and the pacing gets slow at times. Still, a great time for One Piece fans and worth playing for the adventure alone.
If you like one piece and you like turn based strategy games then you'll like this. Has a rock, paper, scissors system and will always let you know when an attack is weak or more resistant depending on the enemy. After playing claire obscur, this is definitely easier in terms of combat, also each character has attributes similar to the show so if you've watched it then you'll know who you need for what in the environment. Oda created a cool story that revisits the past but gives it a nice little spin that makes it feel fresh. So far loving it, not saying it's the best turn based jrpg but scratches that itch and is a solid 7-8/10. I saw some review saying the enemies just get super tanky after the first chapter and that's just not true, the enemies that obviously are meant to be mini-bosses are harder and require a lil strategy. Probably too busy playing with one hand and half a brain cause they're gooning to the anime tits.
Overall nice visuals, fun dialogue with an interesting way to go back through the first arcs of One Piece with an extra bit tying it all together. If you love One Piece like i do it's worth playing, but I'd wait for a sale like I did. Pros -Graphics were solid -Turn based was interesting (I like classic style rpg's though) -Cool locations with easy/medium puzzles (well mostly easy) -Fast travel was good and made exploring feel worthwhile when fast travel was actually available..... ... .. . -I really enjoyed the different crafting parts and the campfire buff -Can play at your own pace... I took my time in each area and thus didn't have to back track really towards the end. -Cool how each character has there own special world perks like Zoro cut metal, Luffy grab far ledges for secret spots, or chopper shrinks to explore -Good amount of side quests and bounty's if you're interested in the extra stuff, though it's really not necessary Cons -Sometimes the world feels empty (beat one enemy then there's just nothing there) -Very linear pathing in most areas, and the map spoils secret locations -Very Easy combat... I did 0 extra grinding through to the end boss and beat him in like 2 hits because of proper crafting accessories -Fast travel seemed to only be available 50% of the time IF THAT... very annoying to purposely have to run back across an entire map with now lower enemies just to leave an area.... that was one of the longest parts of the game -Side quests and bounty's are really not necessary... I forgot about the bounties after the first map.. Overall it's a pretty game that's so easy you can just turn your brain off. It added some interesting remix's to events that already happened, but really no real new info came from this. This game is really made for a One Piece lover that isn't the best at gaming, or really wants some new One Piece Lore to enjoy. It's unfortunate I went from Metaphor on Hard, to this game so I could have literally beat it in my sleep. I did enjoy the story and that I didn't have to non-stop grind. The exploring every nook and cranny felt rewarding as there was 99% something in every out of the way spot. OVERALL - I'd look for a sale (I bought on sale) as I did find it enjoyable, but no replay value to me. It's a PLAY if you're a huge fan and/or want something that's chill but enjoyable. Not a must play IMO, and too cookie cutter in some respects to be 40$
Chapter 1 being short is expected — it’s a tutorial. Chapter 2 (Alabasta) is where One Piece Odyssey really shines, with exploration, puzzles, and a sense of adventure. Unfortunately, most later chapters never reach that same level of content or scope, relying instead on shorter, more linear sections and gimmick-heavy boss fights. If the rest of the game matched Alabasta’s depth, this would’ve been an easy full-price recommendation. Although I still must say I did enjoy it and found it immersive.
