A simple game, but with a pretty fun idea. The concept is to kill each boss in a single turn. It feels satisfying at first, but that feeling doesn’t last long. What really makes the game fun is the deck-building aspect built around this idea. There’s a good variety of cards, allowing for very different and fun deck builds, especially considering the game’s length. The bosses and story are okay, and the visuals and music are very good. The main downside is that the game is short and doesn’t have much replay value. You can keep testing decks or try infinite combo builds, but it doesn’t add enough to make you want to replay the game. 08/10

A hidden masterpiece I happened to uncover last month not long after its release. Now, you see, any game that can get me yapping in Discussions about story theories is an immediate hit in my book. I'd link it here to prove my yap-mastery, but the thread contains spoilers, so I'll leave it be. Anyways, your objective: one turn kill the enemy using the cards in your deck, if you fail, you get one turned. What pushed me to beat this game wasn't just the addicting gameplay, but the story and the music. I'm a writer first, so I'll only focus on the story. It's the definition of show don't tell. There's no fifteen minute monologue explaining everything to you. Even what you discover about the world through progression is minimal at best. So many questions, so few answers, something the game uses to its strength. Nothing short of masterful-- not just writing wise-- but game design as a whole. The art, whether it be the backgrounds, the characters, the cards, or even the soundtrack, there are pieces of story all over the place, and yet... you will never truly have enough to piece everything together. It leaves you wondering, wanting for more, but that desire will never be satisfied, and me? I'm okay with that. Because that's part of what makes this incredible game so compelling, and so bittersweet after you've finished it. If the developers decide to make a second game about this universe, or even if they wanted to branch out into something different, I'll be there the very day it releases. They've earned my trust with this short yet magical experience of a game.

Very fun game, but it has its own flaws. Let's do the good old pros and cons. Pros: 1. The gameplay. Duh. It is fun, it is challenging, it is very little RNG-based, it is interesting... basically, it's good. Not much to say here. I actually found the scarecrow test to be the most fun part. 2. Artstyle. Pixel art in this game is very eye-pleasing, it just feels nice to look at. 3. Music. Certified banger after banger, regardless of stage. Aside from alt stage 3, which just has none, but oh well. 4. Price. Game is cheap. Very cheap. It is to be expected, given how short it is, but still. Cons: 1. Length. Yeah, I won't beat around the bush. I 100%'d the game in 5 hours. It is to be expected from a game that cheap, but still. There is barely any content in this game. Speaking of content... 2. Replay-ability. Supposedly, it's a rogue-like. However, it has, quite literally, no replay-ability. Every single run, bosses are the same (unless you feel quirky and decide to clear alt stage 3), unlocks end very soon and you can even upgrade every single card very soon. There is not much reason to stay in the game after you finished main story, or, even if you decide to play more, after you 100% achievements. 3. Bugs. Or rather, a bug, a singular one. It isn't too annoying, but sometimes, in-game sounds, aside from music, just stop playing, making all animations happen in silence. So, yeah... this is a kind of a game that would REALLY benefit from Steam Workshop support.

Highly Recommended, But It's Very Short ! I loved the soundtrack, the characters were great, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, but the gameplay is so unique that I can't think of any other place to get the same experience. For a more detailed breakdown of the gameplay, it acts as a roguelike kind of. In between runs, you fine tune your 20 card deck, upgrade cards, and set the difficulty for each boss. Then, a run consists of the same 4 boss fights, each of which you have to kill in a single turn. These OTKs are only doable because of the game's unique approach to 'Mana,' as the cost to play costs is to draw that many cards from your deck. This means that each fight will easily get to see every card in their deck, although you might draw your high cost ones too late to use. Because of this, the idea is to construct a deck that has has a combo for the need damage for your difficulty. As you beat the bosses and start running on higher difficulties, the bosses actually force you to play entirely different. The first guy starts a 5 card timer as soon as you half his health, the second starts flooding your deck with 'useless cards,' the third has a real-time timer that gets reset when you deal enough damage, and I'll leave the fourth (and the alternative third) as a surprise. Because the first one has that half health timer, you need to make sure your setup doesn't accidently start that timer before you're ready. Because the second floods your deck with 'useless' cards, you can play your pricy cards without fear of running out... and if you're not drawing enough, you'll lose. Because the third acts on real time, you need calculate which attacks you can afford to drop to buy yourself more time to combo. This game is very well put together but does have a single minor issues (cards that say they create another card don't display what that other card does) . The only "real" issue is that I was able to beat the whole thing in the listed 2.6 hours I have on record. I will say that I believe I managed to find the deck early on, and that my skill level for card games is probably higher than average. Based on the other reviews, I'd say at least double that time for someone who isn't as devoted as I am to the genre. I would beg for a sequel or a continuation, but I sadly doubt that'll happen. If it does though, I know what I'll be spending my money on!

Well this was freaking incredible. Everything from the core combat system, to the separation of the deckbuilding and roguelike aspects, to the great world building and music, all the way to just an overall cornucopia of excellent ideas, and all extremely well executed. If I have to give one complaint, it's simply that I want more. I definitely can't whine too much about getting 5 hours out of an $8 game though, with plenty of room to build new decks and experiment to my heart's content. The year is young, but this is easily my running GotY. Strong 9.5/10.
