Relatively short with a limited draw to replay. Diificulty rapidly escalate once you raise the fog level and if there's an 'ending' hidden being the maximum fog level, it's more than I'm willing to put myself through. Still, this is a nice small game. Well made, with an interesting number of options and a positionnal turn-based gameplay that's puzzely and works well. The movement dynamic has some novelty and the snowpierce fantasy is lowkey acheived. Maybe get this on discount, but it delivers what the screenshot promise.
Not gonna lie, I initially bought this game and refunded it after getting frustrated at some of the anti-synergies. I bought it again after seeing a patch addressing some of the issues I had, and I still don't like how some of the gameplay works out (doing fog level 3 runs at the moment). Mostly, I wish the flexibility in car combinations was better. Trying new things and trying to find niche combos seems to get stifled early before I can really flesh out the deck. That being said, I cannot fathom how the devs are cranking out these patches with such incredible precision and understanding of the issues players are having. As an SE myself, it's impressive to know your system well enough to know which knobs to turn to fix issues based on feedback at this rate. I still agree with some of the negative reviews, but I have never seen a game get tuned like this. EVER. Really happy I picked it back up and looking forward to getting good. If you don't feel like picking it up after reading this, I recommend wishlisting and checking back in every once in awhile. I have no doubt this game will be top notch in no time.
Solid overall first 20 hrs. However, in terms of longevity or scaling difficulties this game fails like so many other cardbuilders to realize how to make a fun scalable challenge for the deckbuilding genre. Making your deck function less by introducing modifiers that makes your deck not function is always a fundamental mistake, especially by fog level 2...
Into the Breach with solid deck construction. You like any of those, you will probably like this game. Was a little bit unsure about variety in the beginning, but the extra carriages/cards you unlock can turn this into a really thinky puzzle game (in a good way). And yanking a raider truck with crane and throwing it into the river is just the best :D
