I really enjoyed Onee Chanbara Origin. It does not have the depth of games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, or Metal Gear Rising but if you like those kinds of action games you will likely enjoy Onee Chanbara Origin. POSITIVES The controls are tight and responsive. It actively discourages spamming by making properly timed presses during combos stronger (with a rhythm style interface to help you learn the timing). There are dodges and parries where dodges are a bit easier but parries can stagger enemies; also there is animation canceling into dodges and parries. Cutscenes are skip-able. There is a scoring system if you like to challenge yourself to get higher scores. NEGATIVES The enemy variety is a bit low. There are light RPG mechanics and I think the game would be better without them. There is a specific sound effect before a bunch of enemy attacks to help you time dodges/parries, but I don't particularly like that sound effect as it is high pitched and kind of grating on my ears; sound effects in general are serviceable at best. NEUTRAL INFO The game is less than 10 hours for a single play through. There are multiple characters you can swap between mid combat which is cool, but all the characters are largely the same with just different timings on their combos. There are multiple difficulties and bonus missions, but you have to beat the game on one of the initial 2 difficulties to unlock the those additional modes (also the harder difficulties don't change enough from the game to make it fresh; mainly you seem to take more damage). In general though this game is much easier than your average character action game. SOME GAMES I WOULD RECOMMEND BEFORE THIS ONE [*]Devil May Cry [*]Bayonetta [*]Metal Gear Rising Revengence [*]Ninja Gaiden [*]Hi-Fi Rush [*]Scarlet Nexus [*]Final Fantasy 16 CONCLUSION I can't recommend this game for the full $59.99 price, but the game regularly goes on sale for $14.99 at -75% and I can definitely recommend it at it's sale price if you like action games, just not over the games above.

Mechanically I think this is the best one in the series. Feels good to play, looks good, and combat is enjoyable. You can also make the blood white.

This is the best one. Not a single doubt in my mind. The third character you unlock plays like the dream action game I thought up when I was 13. (Woooo I'm review #1,000!!)

My playtime got glitched because I played it while offline. It's good but not as fanservicey as it should be. Feels scaled down because of P;aystation censorship.

The game was fun, the story uncomplicated and straight to the point; no philosophical debates, or issues on morality and the human condition, just a nice hack and slash game with beautiful women.
