BloodRayne has that early 2000s energy, music, techno, slow motion and very over-the-top action, very Matrix-style, mixed with Underworld. Excellent. You’re Rayne, a dhampir, half human, half vampire, who kills Nazis and monsters. It might sound ridiculous, but honestly, it’s a concept that’s very well executed. The story does what it needs to do without going overboard. It’s straightforward and there’s nothing wrong with it. Yes, it does have some noticeable historical inaccuracies that can pull you out of the immersion a bit, because some things are just completely off, but hey, it’s fiction. It’s an alternate story, so that can be forgiven. The problem is this version, the BloodRayne: Terminal Cut. It’s a pretty mediocre remaster. The controls are very outdated, the cutscenes are locked at 30 FPS and weren’t improved at all, and the interface is the same as the original game with no real changes. The only difference is that it now supports higher monitor resolutions and has achievements. There’s nothing beyond that. However, there’s a console version called Bloodline Revamped, and that one is a proper remaster. Improved graphics, an improved interface and much more comfortable controls. And now there’s even a mod on Nexus Mods that ports all the Revamped content, especially the graphical improvements, into the Terminal Cut version, which I highly recommend because it’s really good. And even now, it’s still a pretty fun game. It has enjoyable combat and fairly decent bosses, though sometimes repetitive, and the soundtrack is chef’s kiss. It has that old-school essence. Play it out of curiosity or nostalgia and please use mods to fully enjoy it.

It's time... If games like Stellar Blade, Nier Automata, and Bayonetta can succeed, then it's time for Rayne to be rebooted. But let's talk about the original. It's a cult classic. Even for its time it was rough around the edges. It feels like a boomer shooter under the hood with auto-aim (popular for 3rd person action games at the time) and extremely wonky melee combat slapped on top. But what Bloodrayne had was charm. Rayne is the perfect embodiment of the pop culture goth/punk vibe and vampire media of the late 90s and early 2000s. You know, back before Hollywood turned Vampires into a joke. When they were dark, sexy, scary, and badass. Rayne should have gone on to be a much bigger deal than she did and I mostly blame Uwe Boll and his abysmal movie adaption. So yea...Bloodrayne needs a reboot in the vein of Stellar Blade if you ask me. It should lean into the goth/punk badass femme fatale schtick. Give it awesome parry and dodge melee combat and a healthy amount of gunplay and TONS of unlockable sexy outfits. Rayne deserves it. Even if this game has aged very poorly. It's still worth a visit. Nab it when its on sale.

Pros: ✅ Enjoyable and interesting story. ✅ The hardest difficulty provides a challenge in certain areas. ✅ Lots of flying chopped heads and enemies cut in half (a very gory game). ✅ Cheats (if the game is too difficult, you can turn on god mode). ✅ The legacy version is included in the main game folder if you don’t like the remaster. ✅ Achievements. Cons: ❌ Weak remaster... Locked at only 60 FPS (cutscenes are 30 FPS). ❌ Some strange issues with mouse button 1 not registering or weapons shooting non stop (the fix that worked for me was setting display scaling to 100%). ❌ The melee combat is enjoyable because of the gore, but the actual fighting system isn’t fleshed out (sometimes it feels like hits aren’t registering on enemies). ❌ Some areas seem broken on hard difficulty.
