The story is really cute. It's about finding earth. Emeth is the cutest robot ever and his determination to find Earth was very heart breaking especially the events that happened to that whole game. This is the first game of the OPUS series. I recommend buying it when it's on a steam sale.

Calming game, beautiful story and simple yet fun mechanics, the 1000 scan achievement though very tedious

This is a truly heartfelt game. You can see there was a lot of love from the developers, but I feel their vision lacked substance. The main story was made to last around two hours - because they wanted it to feel like a movie - but that decision was to its detriment, as most of the very good story content was left to the post-game. There's almost an hour of content unlocked after the credits - much of which many people might not see, and it's the best part of this game's narrative. Much of the characters' backstories would be much better integrated into the main story instead of getting side-tracked into post-credits. The mechanics are an interesting and somewhat experimental blend of puzzle and exploration. You explore the stars and planets looking for a long-lost Earth, and to reach your goal you need to solve simple tracking and navigation puzzles. They're very charming, especially because you get the feeling of becoming an expert in the areas available to you, while still feeling like there's so much you don't know about the universe. The novelty of this mechanic works because the game is short, though, as there's not too much interactivity. It's an interesting game, but I hate the 1000 stars achievement. Score: 7/10 - Memorable

I have played this game over 10 times to completion over the years because it's so damn addicting. A genius concept for a video game and I am in love with the storyline. Rocket of Whispers and Echo of Starsong are also highly recommended as immediate plays for after this game. Please do not sleep on this series. Amazing title.

Here is my review for OPUS: The Day We Found Earth: The gameplay here is rather simplistic. It's a port of a telephone application game, this includes sliding the screen around and pushing large on screen buttons. The game split in two sections. First you have a view of your spaceship where you can talk to your companion and interact with various items laying around for clues. The brunt of the gameplay is the second format. You take control of a telescope, scan around the cosmos, and scan for planets. You get hints or directions into the "main" planets, but there are also random or side mission stellar bodies as well. Scan the planet, add a name if desired, and repeat until completion. The game is a decent enough story. You play as a robot named Emeth in the year 16,000. Humanity has is in a crisis due to genetic manipulation. They hope they can find unaltered human DNA to save themselves. To do this, they send out two scientists in a spaceship with the robot Emeth. A solar flare hits the ship and you are knocked out. You awaken and find the ship AI talking to you, and not your human companions. Emeth continues to search for planets until the power runs out, and the game blacks out. Suddenly, you are awoken because your ship is drifting into a giant star. You have a gut feeling that you can still find Earth, and you find it in the nick of time and warp away. The end. There isn't a resolution to your missing humans, nor what happens afterwards. I assume this is covered in the sequels. Overall, it's a decent 90 minute story. You can extend that time if you perform the side missions. This is much more of a telephone videogame to be played while on a bus, or pooping.
