The Day We Found Earth is definitely worth a play. It's bittersweet and Emeth is such a little cutie! With that said, $15 feels like a lot to pay given the short runtime and simplistic gameplay, so I'd recommend buying on sale.

A short, cute game about finding Earth that makes you think about the vast void beyond Earth instead. Too short to be worth full price in my opinion, but it's worth trying out on a sale!

OPUS: The Day We Found Earth is a simple adventure (“hidden object”-style game) about finding Earth-like planets. It is mainly characterized by the minimalism of its storytelling. With very few means, it manages to evoke a sense of spatial and temporal scale and encourages reflection. It is especially recommended if you are already fascinated by space. I definitely did not regret finishing this small game, and it did have an impact. However, I would not have been able to complete it in a single sitting, because the gameplay becomes quite repetitive and uneventful in the middle section (relaxing? heh). The gameplay is effective in the sense that it makes you feel how enormous the number of stars is that you can theoretically select, and how unlikely it is to find a small blue planet like Earth—especially when you are just randomly poking around without a plan. This fits very well with the game’s central theme. The same applies to its premise: humanity has left and forgotten Earth, but now seeks to find it again, as it is their last hope. Because it is the only home they have ever known.

As the first entry of the OPUS series, and seeing as I blocked off an entire weekend to marathon all of them, I can already tell we are gonna get absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obliterated in later games. This was a mobile game to start. Frame it that way and you might call it impressive. The game tells you to WASD but you can also touch input around (love my touch monitor) which is a hell of a lot more fun. You can also click and drag the mouse. On PC it's a pretty tepid starting point. It's short and sweet but not much to it. Story has some plot holes and unresolved questions. So they found Earth, now what? Would have liked an epilogue on whether or not the gene pool for humanity was saved given the implication that the OG crew ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off or died like a century ago or so says the description on the store page. Everything about this title speaks to the dream they have of finding the formula they promote as their mantra. "Create unique, heartfelt experiences that bring people joy" Start somewhere, explore, learn, grow. Game is like a lesson realized in that respect. So I'll rec this little fluff fest. Now, on to the next title!

OPUS is a relaxing short-story type of game. You play as a little robot in the far future trying to locate humanity's origin: Earth. You follow clues to search different locations by moving your telescope to find potential matches. In between scanning sections, the story will unfold. It only takes a couple of hours to reach the end and it's a really nice time. The post-game content however doesn't feel worth the time it would take to clear it. I personally found some of it too cryptic and unrewarding to follow through with, but the main game is definitely worth checking out.
