May 2025
I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. It feels like a kids game, mostly because the main plot is kind of thin, and they really want you to collect dinosaurs more than anything else. I could see it being a lot more than it is, but it would take a good overhaul to do it. The relationships with the NPC's are slow and kind of weak. There isn't much real bonding or emotional gravitas to make you feel connected to them. The physical game-play is very good, and the graphics are as well. I've enjoyed it mostly, but can't shake the feeling that it could be a bunch better.

I feel pretty in the middle about this game? Let me break it into pros/cons Pros: - it's a cute game with dinosaurs, very pleasing to look at with bright, happy colors - relaxing, low stakes (think animal crossing vibes instead of stardew valley) - easy to pick up and play, a good game for all ages Cons: - I feel like I have to be glued to a search engine to figure out what to do next, like the game is asking me to do stuff but not giving me all the information I need to do said task - npcs are very bland, my parasaur is the most interesting character so far and it can't even talk - controls feel slow/unresponsive - not a lot to do each day? then again idk, it's hard to tell what the game even wants me to do and my dino runs out of energy so fast I can't really clean up my farm Overall, I do like it as an accessible, cute style of game that lets you befriend dinos - there's not a lot of choices out there for games that let you be buddies with dinosaurs. But if there were more competition in this niche market, I don't think I would honestly rank Paleo Pines that highly just for being so bad at letting the player know what to do. This game genuinely makes me feel stupid sometimes for not getting the most basic things, but then I have to remember that the game just refuses to explain much of anything. I would especially recommend this game for small kids who just wanna hang out with cute dinos. I'm sure they would get a kick out of this. For me personally, I'll keep playing but I really do wish the game company would work on the game some more and do better at conveying tutorials to the players.

(Checks my playtime) Is 400 hours enough to convince you that you might enjoy this game? No? Well, I guess I'll say a few things about it then. This game scratches a collecting itch in my brain. And an organizing itch. It's fun to rearrange the ranch to get it juuuust right. There's also a diverse selection of critters to tame, with each of them having different skills that can help you in the wild AND on the ranch. You can completely automate farming with the smaller dinos! The story is cute and the npcs are fun. It's exciting to come across an ultra rare dino. Only thing I wish it had was the ability to expand the ranch so you don't have to release dinos... 46 is not enough for me 🥺

This game has been an absolute blast from start to finish. The ability to run a ranch with dinosaurs is awesome in it's own right however the fact that you can find "shiny" dinosaurs (ultra-rares) has kept me hooked and tickles my serotonin/dopamine receptors and I fear I'm incredibly addicted to the sheer joy I feel when I find them. I have dedicated countless hours hunting my white whales, I've still yet to find a melanistic Troodon however the hole in my heart is slightly alleviated by the 183 other ultra rares. I expect that any future updates will be as good and rewarding as the ones they have continued to drop so far! P.S WHERE DOES CORLAN GET THE CARNIVORE KIBBLE FROM? IS IT DINOSAURS OR.... OTHER RESIDENTS? I NEED TO KNOW.

A casual, simple, adorable little farming sim with dinosaurs. I like dinosaurs. Highly recommend to anybody who just wants a feel-good game without a lot of brainpower or focus needed to really enjoy it and have a great time. Did I mention the dinosaurs are the most adorable things I've ever seen? No? The dinosaurs are the most adorable things I've ever seen. :)
